Job Description:

Work with ophthalmologists to assist during eye surgery and setting up and performing maintenance on equipment. In addition, ophthalmology technologists often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient's vision. Technologists in this career field must be familiar with ophthalmic pharmacology and understand the use of corrective lenses. The following list provides examples of the most typical duties for positions in this job class:

  • Individual positions may not include all of the examples listed, nor does the list include all of the work that may be assigned to positions in this job class.

  • Interviews patients for ocular and medical history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies and family history.

  • Performs initial work up including visual testing, color vision testing, retinoscopy, and refraction

  • Performs various diagnostic tests and measurements including A-Scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, keratometry, lensometry, tonometry, and visual fields

  • Reviews patient records for completeness.

  • Maintains supplies and equipment in examining rooms.

  • Performs related technical and clerical work

Qualifications:

High School Diploma

JCAHPO Certification

1 year experience as an Opthalmic Tech
