Job Summary: (including but not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned):

Responsible for start, stop and monitoring of equipment including reading gauges and meters and recording activities in operating logs and records. Uses computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record and make adjustments within operating parameters.
Performs a variety of plant maintenance tasks including diagnosis, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment in a safe, efficient and economical manner. Performs overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks. Performs chemical analysis
and chemical control on steam, cooling and condensate systems, and maintains chemistry logs. Incumbents assist in the development of standard operational procedures and provide input to plant betterment items to improve plant efficiency, reliability and safety.
Ensures compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations and plant procedures. Regularly required to maintain plan security, operate heavy equipment such as manlifts and forklifts, and handle and transfer bulk chemicals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Errors have small and possibly incremental impact on department or facility, and discovered in succeeding operations where work is verified or checked.

  • Completes tasks and resolves problems that require an ability to recognize deviation from accepted practices.

  • Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.

  • Works under general supervision.

  • Prioritizes daily activities to complete tasks/projects assigned by others.

  • May assist with orienting and training employees in moderately complex to complex areas.


  • High School Diploma, degree from technical/vocational school, military service or equivalent.

  • Journey-level; generally 6 years directly related experience including understanding of health and safety regulations, and previous experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals and waste materials including knowledge of safe handling, storage,
    and transport.

  • Requires previous experience using test equipment and calibration appliances. Experience with machinery repair and control systems.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics.

  • Basic certifications/licensures. Valid state drivers license.

Job Overview SUMMARY: Flexographic press operators have the main duties of preparing the printing press for the upcoming job, operating it during the job and maintaining it between jobs to print designs or lettering on rolls of flexible plastic film, paper, and nonabsorbent stock. Basic duties are safely operating the press while printing to standard and ensuring the product meets quality specifications and production goals. 2. Principal Accountabilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Safely operate printing press. * Reads job order and adjust the press for each new job…a process called "make-ready" * Set-up machine to parameter guidelines given on job order within standard timeframe. Update set-up sheet as required. * Inserts shaft through core of plastic roll and secures roll on press in feed position. * Installs the printing plates that contain the images to be produced, loads the specific type of material and adds ink, adjusts the press to the material size and feeds it through the press cylinders. * Starts press, adjusting speed, tension, and alignment of printing plate as necessary. * Monitor the machine during the printing process and make adjustments as needed. * Operators must fix any tears or jams, and regularly check printed material for any problems. * Perform maintenance on the equipment including cleaning and oiling the presses, and doing minor repairs. * Ensure product meets all work order requirements, quality and customer specifications * Required documentation is completed * Material handling of pallets and raw materials as needed. * Maintain a clean machine and work station. * Follow flag procedure during shut down/start up. * Cut sample of printed material from end of printed roll and inspects for imperfections, such as blurred or off-center impressions. * Document production quantity in Production Record Book. * Other duties as assigned 3. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises 1 to 2 (Press Assistants). On the press carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's safety and other policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assisting with appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 4. Qualifications/Requirements Ability to set-up and operate a printing press, ability to properly troubleshoot and adjust printing press, ability to read drawings and specifications. Ability to perform computer data entry functions. Knowledge and Experience * Two years or more experience on printing press equipment. Education and Certifications * High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4.1 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours Job Specific skills and abilities * MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: * Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division. * Use of ruler to measure dimensions. * Reasoning ability to identify conforming and non-conforming product. LANGUAGE SKILLS: * Some knowledge of English language. Able to communicate mechanical or quality issues to supervisors, mechanics, quality coordinators, etc. Able to read specifications and instructions in English as well as fill out proper documentation and quality forms in English. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Capable of using a hoist to manipulate heavy materials. * Lifting up to 40 pounds. Capable of grasping tools, pallet jacks, etc. * Frequently required to walk.
