Job Description

Line Saw Operator

• Maintain housekeeping on all operated equipment and immediate area of responsibility.

• Conduct Operator Performed Maintenance on all operated equipment (change saw blades, replenish release agent, service printer and label applicator, clean and lubricate dust collectors and can densor, etc.).

• Continuously check product and correct for dimensions, foam quality, and appearance.

• Grade boards and cull inferior product. Label seconds for transfer to warehouse.

• Backup for Packagers during breaks and labor shortages.

• Take and record densities as needed, record and maintain those results.

• Monitor trash collection and change trash bins.

• Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand during working time of 10-hour shift.

• The employee is regularly required to walk on concrete floors over an area of about 150 feet radius including some stairs and raised platforms.

• The employee must be able to constantly use hands, fingers, and arms to adjust operational components of equipment, tools, and controls, use computer keyboard, and occasionally change industrial saw blades weighing approximately 35 pounds and 18" in diameter.

• The employee must regularly use hands and arms to reach, lift, and balance foam insulation boards weighing between 10 and 20 pounds for inspection purposes and carry panels 1-2 times per hour to the testing lab (approximately 60 feet) for purposes of operating band saw to prepare specimens for lab testing.

• Employee must occasionally apply labels and film to bundles of stacked product and as necessary replace film rolls weighing approximately 38 pounds.

• Employee must occasionally lift and manipulate foam boards (up to 20 pounds each) and 4x8 wood panels (approximately 50 pounds each) for assembly.

• The employee must regularly bend and twist, and move 4.5 cubic yard steel containers on casters filled with sawdust and scrap foam manufacturing products weighing approximately 500 pounds.

Required Language Skills:

• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write correspondence, maintain written data records, write label information.

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations with multi-digit numbers.

• Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume, and distance.

• Must be able to read and use a tape measure accurate to 1/16", a micrometer accurate to .001", and a lab scale.
