The Utility Plant Operator Trainee will learn and practice the fundamentals of water treatment to produce a quality product at an efficient cost. Day-to-day activities for water operator trainees will be to produce a safe, pleasant, and adequate supply of drinking water/wastewater.
Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent insures proper plant compliance via various process control tests.
Conducts routine analyses on water samples to measure numerous chemical, physical and microbiological properties, following standard operating procedures. Performs tests and monitors the quantity and quality of the finished or reuse water leaving the plant.
Other duties include record keeping, cleaning and maintenance of plant property and equipment.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used for daily operations of the treatment facility.
Knowledge of lab supplies.
Ability to perform necessary tests and analysis.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; verbally and in written form.
Knowledge of treatment facility regulations and specifications.
This is 40 hour per week shift work, must possess the ability to work on a rotational shift which could include nights, weekends, and holidays as plants are manned 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED
Prefer six months of related experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Must complete Class (Level) C Operator Training Course within one year of employment and successfully pass the exam within two years of hire.
Must complete and provide certification for the Sacramento Course Volume One within 6 months from the hire date.
Must complete and provide certification for the Sacramento Course Volume Two within 12 months from the hire date.
Must sit for the exam and achieve a minimum score of 50% on the State exam within 18 months from the hire date.
Must be State certified as a Class C Operator within two years from the date of hire.

Days and hours for this position will vary. Must have the ability to work a rotational shift which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Possess the ability to use and operate general maintenance equipment at the plant.
Knowledge of preventative and general maintenance.
Knowledge of mathematics for chemical adjustments.
