Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Performs roadway and right-of-way maintenance
Operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment such as Operator II-level equipment, along with belly dump trailers, chip spreaders, bulldozers, bucket trucks, vacuum brooms, and excavators.
Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
Leads the implementation of setting up and maintaining traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
Performs basic computer skills including, but not limited to, checking email and electronic timekeeping
Enters data into the roadway asset management system
Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks (6 and 12-yard dump trucks)
Prepares and maintains reports of daily work activities
Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work of others
Responds to citizen concerns with close supervision
Complies with departmental and county safety standards
Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
Attends all meetings and trainings
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Four (4) years of related work experience
Successfully performs all duties of Bell County Operator II
Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
Thorough knowledge of roadway and right-of-way maintenance and crew-specific skills
Thorough knowledge of the operation of Operator II-level equipment, along with belly dump trailers, chip spreaders, bulldozers, bucket trucks, vacuum brooms, and excavators.
Thorough knowledge of the TMUTCD

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Required within sixty (60) days of employment
Texas Class "A" CDL with Tanker Endorsements
First Aid and CPR
Required Equipment:
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree in a related field
Six years' experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
Knowledge of roadway construction
Commercial Herbicide Applicator's License
