Overview

Responsible for operating the filler of an assigned line, including ensuring that product is properly sealed and packaged. Assists in pulling supplies and loading filler appropriately throughout production process.

Responsibilities

• Sets up machine(s) prior to shift start up and shut down as applicable.

• Load filler with appropriate product lids, cups, and box labels as required by production and packaging of product.

• Ensures packaging materials are correct, in specification and properly positioned in the machine and changes materials as needed.

• Monitors and adjusts weight control of packaged units and ensures codes are accurate and correct in format.

• Records all information as required.

• Perform all necessary SAP functions.

• Maintains standard production quantities/rates for each product.

• Provides product samples to lab according to defined requirements.

• Responsible for metal detector checks are made.

• Cleans, rinses and sanitizes equipment according to specified procedures.

• Replenishes packaging supplies such as film, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, labels, etc. as needed.

• Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions; makes minor adjustments/repairs; communicates mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.

• Mounts supplies on spindles or places supplies in hoppers or other feeding devices.

• Assists General Helper and other Machine Operator positions when needed.

• Lift cases weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.

• Coordinates information and equipment with Lead, General Helper, Mechanics, Warehouse, QA, Sanitation, and next shifts Operators as needed.

• Ensures compliance to quality standards, food safety, 5S, HACCP & OSHA programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards by all in work area.

• Performs other duties / responsibilities as assigned by management.

• This position is designated as a Qualified Individual responsible for Preventive Controls as trained.

Qualifications

• Basic mechanical aptitude and math skills are required.

• Prior machine operating experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.

• High School Diploma or GED

• Ability to work cooperatively in a team.

• Ability to follow detailed directions and to understand time, temperature, and weight measurements.

• Strong oral communication skills required.

• Ability to maintain a clean and safe working area.

Competencies

Works in an office and manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, hear, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally bend while moving about the facility. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors and risk of electrical shock. The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors and moving parts/equipment. The noise level in the plant is loud and moderate in the office. Earplugs, hairnets, beard nets (if facial hair exists), safety glasses, & slip-resistant I steel-toed shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards. Must be able to move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for an 8-12-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks while performing repetitive work. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.
