Job Description:
Operations Management Trainee

The Operations Management Trainee program starts our employees on a journey that will yield a rewarding career in the extremely diverse culture of CGB. The trainee starts their training period at one of the many locations throughout the Midwest. The initial training period usually lasts 12-24 months. Once the trainee's performance warrants advancement to the next phase of training, they will be reassigned to a different terminal for further training or to assume the role of Superintendent or Operations Manager at a CGB Terminal. Once the employee reaches this phase, more doors of opportunity open as the employee continues to evaluate their interests and career goals. There is no such thing as a typical day for our Operations Managers. Every day is different and every day brings with it a new set of challenges. Our Operations Managers' most important job responsibility is guarding their employees' safety. This manager is also responsible for making sure the facility is operating in an efficient and profitable manner. They will have direct input on personnel issues, financial decisions, construction projects and proposals, as well as the daily operations of the facility.

Primary Job Duties :

  • Manage the company safety initiative

  • Manage the facility operation for efficiency and profitability

  • Lead the elevator employees to accomplish the work at hand and improve the facility

  • Provide input for repair and construction projects

Job Requirements :

  • Knowledge of grain or bulk materials handling

  • Leadership and managerial skills

  • Problem solving skills

  • People skills

  • Conflict management skills

  • Willing to relocate as career progresses

Degree Required:

  • 4 year degree required

  • Preferred - Ag Systems or Industrial Engineering

Travel Required : Some travel required, less than 25%.

Basic Job Description: CGB Grain Merchandiser Trainees are a part of the CGB Grain Team, and they are expected to be decision makers from day one at their locations. Thrust into the action, they will analyze industry information (both domestic and global) to make profitable decisions for their customers and their respective locations on a daily basis. Merchandisers will spend much of their time on the phone, creating and building relationships with both elevators and producers, however Merchandisers are expected to build those relationship as they best see fit. Getting out of the office to meet with their customers in person is encouraged. Grain Merchandiser Trainees will be trained and mentored by the CGB Grain Team members who are experienced, knowledgeable, and successful employees that are committed to the success of the new hires. Trainees will experience a flexible training program which will often be adjusted based on the needs and desires of the specific person. As trainees develop, they are presented with many options for their career path. There is not a structured, one way for all, career path. Since CGB is a decentralized company, the trainees who are willing to move between CGB locations, can develop into many different roles within the organization. Senior Grain Originator, Facility Manager, Group Manager, CIF Trader, Barge Freight Trader, Regional Manager, and Vice President are a few of the different roles with specific titles. Nevertheless, employees will often be involved in creating their own roles within the organization and have responsibilities that fall across multiple areas within the Grain Division.
