SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This leadership position is a member of the Operations department. In cooperation with other Operations Supervisors, this position is responsible for coordinating custodial activities primarily on the 2nd and 3rd shifts. This position will work primarily Monday thru Friday's 2:30 pm until 11:30 pm; some weekends hours possible at the direction of the Manager of Facilities and Director of Facilities.

Contribute to the TEAM EFFORT as outlined through the district strategic plan and mission statement.
Monitor, direct, and evaluate the performance of custodial staff through periodic inspections, employee evaluations, and daily supervision, as required and using departmental and district practices, standards, and policies, provide timely, consistent, and non-discriminatory training, coaching, and if required discipline of employees.
As required, assist with the scheduling of custodial building and job scheduling assignments.
Assist in the interviewing and screening of applicants for positions within the department.
Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable district, city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies involving buildings, personnel, and occupant health and safety. This would include but is not limited to fire regulations, building codes, Right-To-Know, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Boiler licenses, Swimming Pool certifications and integrated pest management.
Assist Human Resources in monitoring and ensuring compliances with labor laws, contracts, wage and hour laws, workers compensation, FMLA, ADA.
Control costs through the efficient use of department and district resources, including personnel and budgetary.
Monitor and evaluate custodial supplies and equipment. Assist with the current inventory of the same.
Monitor, direct, and coordinate renovation cleaning of buildings during summer and holiday breaks and other non-school days/periods.
Provide oral and written instructions to Operations staff for requested special services, which vary from routine operations.
Assist in implementing training and cleanliness standards and ensure the standards are met.
Assist in providing appropriate and accurate documentation for specific records, including but not limited to personnel, labor contracts, attendance, budget, shift scheduling, progressive discipline, workers compensation, training, and payroll.
Assist in monitoring and scheduling "'building use permit" activities in district sites.
As required, direct and ensure the availability of facilities for special events and activities, including but not limited to graduation exercises, conferences, and VIP tours,
With sufficient advance notice, must be able to work other shifts as required, including during vacation periods of other supervisors.
Using the district's mileage reimbursement process, must use his/her own personal vehicle for travel between district sites and for any other district purposes.
As required, attend departmental and district meetings.
Maintain a positive, cooperative, and non-confrontational working and personal relationship with all persons, including parents, students, Operations and other district employees, and the GRESPA employee unit.
Any other duties as assigned.

High school diploma required. Associate degree is preferred.
Current boiler license as issued by the City of Grand Rapids required.
Using department and district procedures and policies, must be available for after-hour and emergency phone calls and duties, including on weekends, holidays, and vacation periods of other Operations supervisors, including Grounds supervisor. Must be able and willing to become well versed in all Grounds operations and procedures, including winter weather operations.
Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including a minimum of three years direct leadership/supervision of a group/department of people, preferably in an educational setting.
Demonstrated ability to deal with students, parents, the public, and other district employees, in a tactful, courteous, and customer service-oriented manner.
Demonstrated knowledge of current cleaning methodology.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and in an environment of constantly changing priorities and work assignments.
Demonstrated good attendance and punctuality.
Demonstrated effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated confidentiality for sensitive and personal issues involving the department and district.
Demonstrated experience and confidence working with computers and Windows based software programs. Able to learn the use of the district's GroupWise e-mail system.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able and willing to work alone, travel about the district and enter buildings as required, regardless of the time of day, and/or the weather condition. The employee must be able to work inside and some outside, in various types of weather. The employee must be able to lift 40 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
