Overview

The Operations Supervisor directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates event setup activities and operations for the facility and provides responsible staff assistance to the Director of Event Operations.

This role will pay an hourly rate between $18 to $20.

About the Venue

The Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center anchors lively downtown Mobile, Alabama, a city that offers world-class accommodations, retail shops, restaurants, museums, parks and art galleries. The 317,000-square-foot facility features 16 meeting rooms, two ballrooms and two exhibit halls that total 100,000 square feet.

Covered walkways and crosswalks to nearby hotels give attendees the ultimate in convenience, with downtown dining, nightlife, shopping and sightseeing just minutes away. Winner of numerous architectural awards, the Mobile Convention Center takes full advantage of an exclusive waterfront setting. The striking exterior incorporates outdoor terraces on three sides of the venue, while the expansive windows - more than 45,000 square feet of exterior glass - afford magnificent views of the historic Mobile River from three levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, direct, coordinate and review the work plans for facility operations.

  • Work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

  • Ability to follow written instruction, interpret CAD's and blueprints.

  • Interface with vendors and production crews as required.

  • Responsible for organization and presentation of all Operations storage areas.

  • Communicates between shifts the necessary tasks that still need to be completed.

  • Working knowledge of operations equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, staging, pipe and drape, all tables, all chairs, etc.

  • Coordinates between changeover crew and housekeeping needs with Building Services staff

  • Assist in completing light janitorial work (vacuuming, sweeping, and taking out trash and recycling.

  • Maintains departmental equipment in good working condition.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • Minimum of (2) years experience in an operations position in an Arena, Convention Center or Public Assembly Facility including set-up/housekeeping, event coordination or related field; a degree in Facility Management or related field may allow for substitution for years of experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, adept at multitasking and meeting deadlines.

  • Self-motivated with strong leadership and organizational abilities.

  • Proficient with operational equipment such as forklifts, scrubbers, etc.

  • Skilled in following written instructions, interpreting AutoCAD drawings.

  • Capable of following explicit orders, collaborating in teams, and working independently.

  • Adaptable to flexible schedules, including weekends and extended hours.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and customer service skills.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
