Overview

The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representative employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement.

Effective communication, leadership, creating a positive team environment with employees and peers is key to success for the selected candidate. This position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boat business. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or experienced trades-person to advance into a career-building leadership position and gain invaluable experience to support their career development.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the activities of approximately 15 piping trades employees in the performance of preparing, assembling and installing equipment on-board submarines

  • Primary point of contact to interface with engineering, ship's management, quality and other trade departments

  • Lead the team to achievement of company goals for safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement

  • Take ownership of team performance

Responsibilities

  • Have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, procedures, and related reference documents

  • Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates and supervisors

  • Must be able to work all assigned shifts

  • Must be able to work extended hours

  • Must be able to go on road assignments as business needs dictate

  • Applicant must obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance as a condition of employment

  • Capable of reading, interpreting and putting into effect plans, procedures and instructions

  • Good presentation skills and attention to detail preferred

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point preferred

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of shipyard experience - Pipefitting experience

Preferred:

  • College/technical school AS/BS degree

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Previous related Military/Navy experience

  • Nuclear qualifications / Radcon qualifications

  • Knowledge of 688 and VIRGINIA class submarines

Position Summary PURPOSE: The Operation Supervisor leads the manufacturing team to ensure department metrics are achieved in a safe, timely, quality, cost efficient and productive manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Responsible for supervision of department employees including training, discipline, development and staffing recommendations. * Provide the leadership for development and implementation of effective systems for improving internal and external quality, cost improvements, and on-time delivery to the customer requirements. * Coordinate production with required schedules to meet customer requirements. Control flow of product, materials and utilization of labor throughout department. * Directs and approves, following financial department guidelines, all requisitions for maintenance activities and purchase of department consumables. * Effectively develop and coach employees with emphasis on building a winning team. * Coordinate department priorities and communicate daily with the engineering, quality, production control, finance, human resources, other production areas and vendors. * Effectively collaborate with manufacturing engineers to achieve scrap, cost and safety requirements. * Manage, direct and coordinate all activities related to the area to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality and throughput targets. * Review and plan for daily/ weekly/ quarterly labor, equipment, and supply requirements to achieve the departmental throughput while meeting and exceeding the productivity targets. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Operations Manager SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge ERP systems.
