Job Summary

Black & Veatch delivers design, procurement and construction solutions to help provde safe drinking water and wastewater treatment to communities worldwide. We serve public and private clients with a strong focus on life cycle economy, efficiency, and reliability. Black & Veatch helps clients with startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and training of their operations staff to be able to effectively operate the new and upgraded facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide startup, commissioning and troubleshooting services for conventional and advanced wastewater treatment.

  • Prepares standard operating procedures and operation and maintenance manuals for new and existing facilities.

  • Perform onsite training for operations staff.

  • Conduct facility assessments by evaluating staffing levels, O&M costs, and system redundancy to ensure reliable operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years' of experience performing duties similar to those of an Environmental Scientist 2. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

At least 5 years experience in wastewater operations or commissioning of wastewater plants. Plant startup and commissioning experience a must. Technical writing skills and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PDF, Microsoft Visio) are a must.


Wastewater Operators License Preferred


Work Environment/Physical Demands

Normal office environment. May be subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 30 degrees for periods of more than one hour), extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour), hazards (electrical currents, working on scaffold). Could walk large amounts throughout plants and up and down stairs. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.

Job Summary Provides technical and analytical information management solutions through the use of software and databases for domestic or international projects. Functions in a GIS Specialist capacity under general supervision, performs moderately complex aspects of data administration, creation, analysis, reporting, mapping and/or application development. Applies knowledge of geospatial and information management principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments. Key Responsibilities Performs analytical, technical, and/or developmental tasks, such as: * Responsible for providing support to senior Information Solutions staff for a variety of geospatial and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems / Enterprise Asset Management Systems (CMMS/EAMS) solutions and services * Responsible for data editing and manipulation and ensuring data accuracy based on quality assurance / quality control guidelines * Support senior staff on projects related to water, waste/storm water utility modeling and master plans, asset management program assessments and development projects, facility integrity/condition assessment studies, and analysis projects. * Ensures compliance with project requirements of accuracy / specifications for scope of service and overall quality. * Establishes and maintains required files to document data references, analytical methods, calculations and rationale used in reaching conclusions. * Performs additional tasks specific to an area of expertise or technology. * Develops GIS-based tools, applications, databases, or similar solutions. Preferred Qualifications Desired experience includes familiarity and proficiency in the following GIS and information management solutions: * Managing and editing data through Esri's suite of applications including but not limited to: ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Server), Collector, Survey123, Operations Dashboard, Story Maps, etc. * Desire to learn new software including: CMMS, cloud, mobile, analytics, business intelligence, visualization and data blending applications. * Microsoft Office suite of applications including: Word, Excel, Access, PowerBI, PowerPoint and productivity apps. * Introductory to moderate familiarity with one or more programming or scripting languages including: Python, Arcade, SQL, JavaScript, C++, Visual Basic The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in the integration of GIS with technologies such as custom program management dashboards, CMMS, SCADA, IoT and hydraulic modeling. Additional qualifications include: * Bachelor's degree in GIS, Physical, Earth, Life Science, Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited university; or equivalent job-related work experience. * 1+ years of experience in a dynamic and diverse information analysis environment. * Excellent time / data management, communication, and interpersonal skills required. * Enthusiastic about learning, pushing technical limits, and finding new solutions. Experience with the following is considered advantageous: * Exposure to engineering-related concepts and functions (i.e., technical experience in GIS support of water distribution or wastewater collection systems). * Familiarity with one or more programming or scripting languages (e,g. Python, Arcade, SQL, JavaScript, C++) is a plus though not required. * Familiarity with basic to moderately complex relational databases and asset hierarchies Minimum Qualifications Bachelors' degree in Physical, Earth, or Life Science from an accredited university; or equivalent job-related experience.
