The operations specialist performs a variety of activities, including assisting the operations construction team in all facets of tie-in preparation for crude lines. The specialist assists with Pre Start-up Safety Reviews, pipeline drain downs, line fills, assisting pipeline pigging to purge and refill pipelines, maintenance of right-of-way and grounds around pipeline or other facilities, maintenance and repairs on pipeline and pipeline equipment, oversee proper construction of pipeline, line locates, and relief tank gauging. He/she liaises between in-house and third parties to ensure every job is completed with a safety-first mentality.Essential duties and responsibilities: • Makes safety the top priority each day. We are striving for a 100% incident free culture. • Ensures compliance with company manuals and policies. • Makes environmental integrity a priority each day. • Ensures the pipeline is maintained by participating and assisting with pipeline drain downs and line fills. Assist Operations Construction team. Familiar with pipeline pigging, able to walk a line to determine isolation points. Able to assist with purging lines. • Takes responsibility for small maintenance and expansion projects including assessing scope, procuring materials and contractors, and supervising the work with the advice and assistance of your manager. • Has a clear understanding of Kinder Morgan Contractor Safety Expectations. • Assists Operations with Valve Maintenance, troubleshooting and plans for replacing when required. • Assists Operations with Pre Safety Startup Reviews for lease sites, pipelines and stations. • Observes daily any traveled section of the pipeline for leaks, line markers, and needed maintenance. • Observes contractors during tie-ins to ensure compliance and safety. • Reports any incident to your supervisor immediately. Reports any needed repairs to the supervisor in a timely fashion. • Keeps company vehicles, field equipment, stations, and shop areas clean, serviced, and organized. • Keeps all paperwork and documentation required up to date and complete. • Works with operations teams through Division 15 and fellow employees to provide excellent customer service, pipeline safety and integrity. • Communicates all daily activities and ensures well documented.Competencies, skills, and abilities: • Good verbal and written communication skills. • Above average abilities with a computer. • Customer orientation. • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to other employees of the company and outside contractors. • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals). • Apply common sense understanding to carry out day-to-day operation issues. • Be able to make quick and reasonable decisions in sometimes-adverse conditions. • Experience in pipeline maintenance and/or construction.Certifications, licenses, registrations: • Valid state operating license with acceptable driving record under company insurancePhysical demands: • Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools. • Climbs and works at various heights. May work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position. • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work. • Regularly bends, stoops, moves from ground level to higher levels, raises/lifts from ground level a load up to 50 lbs., manually transports a load up to 75 lbs., and applies up to 150 foot pounds of torque. • Regularly gets into and out of vehicles and rides over rough roads. • Walks an average of 5 miles per day, up to 7 miles per day. • Subject to overtime and call-outs. • Candidates may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements.Working conditions: • Works mostly outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment. • Required to climb about equipment and work in confined areas (i.e., tanks, between compressors, vessels). • May be subject to work in hazardous conditions including hydrocarbon vapor, near nitrogen, limited light, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures. • Wears safety equipment as required.
