Operations Specialist Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenanceof Company Terminals, Oil and gas pipelines, pump stations, and other relatedfacilities.

Operations Specialist Essential Duties and

  • Operate and maintain terminals, pipelines, pump stations and auxiliary equipment, engines, turbines, motors, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, seals and other related equipment.

  • Ensure the cost effective and efficient performance of all engines, pumps and associated equipment at terminals, pump stations, compressor stations, and pipelines. Start, stop and operate pumps/engines within defined operating parameters.

  • Diagnose and repair pumps, seals, valves, instruments, pumps, seals, valves and instruments.

  • Install, repair, service and maintain valves, pipe, pipeline appurtenances, corrosion control protection systems, and measurement

  • Operate, maintain, adjust and make minor repairs on equipment such as industrial wheeled tractors, water pumps, air compressors, expanders, coolers, test equipment, vehicles, etc.

  • Company liaison during contacts with landowner/tenants, public/emergency officials and local meetings (One Call, Pipeline Groups, Soil Conservation, USFS, etc.).

  • Oversee and train Company and third party personnel as required (visitors, personnel in progression, transport drivers, contractors and construction/maintenance activities).

  • Identify report and correct safety and environmental concerns.

  • Actively participate in safety programs/initiatives, development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.

  • General upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment (pipeline right-of-way, storage areas, storage tanks, LACT units, excavate/repair/coat/backfill pipelines, building construction, concrete work, paint, weed control, etc.).

  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory, Company tariff requirements and governmental activities (PHMSA, EPA, USFS, state agencies, etc.). Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.

  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.

  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.

  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.

  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

  • Will maintain Operator Qualification on all assigned covered tasks as determined by direct Supervisor

Minimum Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of terminals, pump stations, compressor stations, crude oil and potentially natural gas pipelines, and other equipment or facilities as assigned

  • Experience analyzing, adjusting and making minor repairs on pumps, engines, and other associated equipment.

  • Achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications (OQ) and progression requirements applicable to the job classification. OQ includes but is not limited to; Gas Detection/Alarm System Maintenance/Performance Tests; Inspect/Isolate/Operate/Shut Down/Start Pump Stations or Compressor Units (manual and remote); Corrosion Monitoring; Cathodic Protection system Maintenance; Locate/Install/Protect Customer Meters; Locating Pipelines; Damage Prevention; Leakage Survey and Investigation, and Valve Maintenance

  • Beginner proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.

  • May become required to possess a commercial driver's license with a tanker and HAZMAT endorsement, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle regulation.

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).

  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, other operating systems and software).

  • May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Associate's Degree in related field.

  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs and other diagrams.

  • Detailed knowledge of Company policies, procedures and practices as well as regulatory and tariff requirements.

  • Detailed knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of crude oil, flammable liquids, and high/low pressure systems.

  • Detailed knowledge of crude oil pump stations and mainline piping systems a plus.

  • Detailed knowledge of LACT Units and Storage tanks a plus.
