OverviewTA Instruments is searching for an Operations Manufacturing Senior Director, located in the New Castle, DE office. This candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the TA Business Committee where you will be a critical part of strategic business decisions. This position will be comprised of planning, administering and directing all activities of the Manufacturing Department, including all management and employees personally or indirectly through subordinate supervisors. Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to

  • Establishes a compelling vision and strategy to achieve strategic and financial objectives that align with the business.

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership to the Manufacturing department.

  • Motivates and energizes a widely diverse team to achieve goals and objectives in all areas of the business.

  • Participates as an active member of the Business Committee including providing time, resources, solutions, suggestions, and expert advice in the area(s) of responsibility as well as across all areas of the business to achieve the best overall success possible for the entire organization.

  • Communicates expectations, manages performance, coaches and develops organizational talent in order to enhance the employee satisfaction and overall results for Manufacturing globally within TA.

  • Provides functional expertise as it relates to M&A analysis, decision making, due diligence, planning and implementation of acquired companies.

  • Builds high performing focused teams of managers and employees in the functional area(s) of responsibility capable of consistently achieving department targets.

  • Ensures team members understand what is expected of them and that they deliver the right business outcomes.

  • Manages and recommends allocation and integration of department resources to meet commitments and objectives; submits and administers operational budgets and schedules.

  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.

The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following


  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or any other relevant field.
  • MBA highly desired


  • 10+ years of electrical/electronic manufacturing management experience

  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills including experience managing subordinate managers and organizations with preferably multiple locations both domestic international.

  • Ability to achieve positive results for the company while maintaining cost effective P&L responsibilities


  • Displays Organizational Effectiveness

  • Leadership, accountability, customer focus, results oriented, team builder, flexible and innovative.

  • Strategy development, business and operational planning and execution, organizational effectiveness, financial management, change leadership, business development, staff management and development.


  • The employee is required to travel frequently to other office locations, vendor locations and customer sites including travel by ground and air carrier (domestically and/or internationally) including overnight stays of various lengths.

The Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for production operations in the batch plant including Esterification, Alkoxylation, Multi-products, Blending, Spray Congealing, drumming, and process support. This position will be responsible for safe operations of production, efficient use of production personnel, compliance with environmental permits, adherence to cost budgets, and execution of the production schedule to support the business. This position will work closely with the other members of the production team to achieve the goals and objectives of the site. Perform all duties within the Company's safety, health and environmental regulations. All other duties as assigned by management. Key Duties: Manufacturing – 40% * Efficient, high quality plant operation supporting of business requirements. Meet complex production schedule to ensure production plan targets meet on-time delivery to customers. Ensure cost effective operation driving for lowest unit cost. Drive continuous OEE and productive improvement tools through work with technical team * Assure all production policies and procedures (SOP's) are followed. * Support maintenance activities and ensure they are sufficient to meet operational requirements. Support capital changes to plant equipment. Environmental, Health and Safety – 30% * Compliance with all environmental permits, health and safety regulations * Compliance with corporate and site specific policies and rules through employee engagement * Continuous improvement of systems to achieve an injury free workplace and a high standard of housekeeping and organization. Drive 5S and support VPP and behavioral safety systems. Maintain a clean and safe workplace. * Ensure thorough investigations of incidents and action closure, training implementation, participate in various safety audits and the site behavior based safety program.. Administrative Duties – 30% * Manage shift supervisors and operating teams. Manage union engagement and adherence to union bargaining agreement * develop personnel performance documents and conduct performance reviews * Proactively manage operations personnel performance and other personnel issues. Manage employee training and competency., Participate in VPP, EDSI review, site safety committee and other site and business teams * Proactively drive site culture through operations to achieve safe and efficient performance Qualifications: * BS in chemical engineering or other technical degree * Minimum of 5 years' experience in specialty chemical manufacturing * Minimum of 2 years' experience in a union environment * Strong interpersonal, organizational and oral and written communication skills. * Able to walk, stand and sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day. Required to move throughout production areas on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and ladders.
