Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking an on-site Operations Manager for our facility located in Birmingham, Alabama. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager will be responsible to maximize daily productivity. Primary role is to ensure equipment is functioning and staff are well prepared to operate efficiently. This position requires extensive experience in cold forming metal applications, particularly related to welded steel pipe or sheet goods. Demonstrating a strong ability to set-up and troubleshoot equipment for proper function while processing vendor products is critical to this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct the activities of supervisors, maintenance, and operation staff.

• Actively promote safety awareness and continuous improvement through observation and team input.

• Drive the quality objectives of the plant by ensuring product meets customer and internal requirements through product and process inspections.

• Facilitate and perform equipment set-up or adjustments when required.

• Troubleshoot operational and equipment problems to improve quality and efficiency.

• Facilitate and promote training to meet quality expectations by ensuring all employees are trained to perform their respective jobs including the purpose of the safety features of their specific machine, workstation controls, and tools and equipment.

• Review daily operational reports to communicate operational, manufacturing, maintenance issues and shift events to management team to prevent operational delays.

• Participate in continuous improvement and yield projects.

• Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Minimum of ten years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment with exceptional knowledge of machine function related to metal products.

• Sound decision-making ability, computational, and analytical skills.

• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

• Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite

• Supervisory experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push and pull. Able to reach in all directions.

• Walk and stand for extended periods of time.

• Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push and pull.

• Must be able to lift 60lbs.

• Manufacturing/ Industrial work environment

• Other physical requirements as needed for job.
