  • MONTLAKE PHARMACY DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME OPERATIONS MANAGER - PHARMACY PURCHASING (Day Shifts). This position assists the Director of Pharmacy Purchasing with the implementation and ongoing evaluation of the UW Medicine Pharmacy Purchasing/Procurement Services. The Manager will function as a working leader in providing direct supervision for the Purchasing/Procurement Pharmacy Services areas, and functions at a high level to manage day-to-day pharmaceutical inventory levels and transfers. The Manager will oversee the ongoing evaluation of complex pharmaceutical inventory levels, shortages and on-hand inventories minimizing impact on organization, and will increase awareness of current status of problematic items and facilitate staff's ability to locate inventory stores of products across organization.

This position assists in managing procurement of all medications within UW Medicine Pharmacy Services, which includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center Montlake, UW Medical Center Northwest, and UW Primary Care Clinics. The manager assists in the planning, developing, organizing, operating and evaluating of the Pharmacy purchasing/procurement team, and will monitor vendor system and internal UW Medicine developed systems. This position requires understanding of pharmacy processes, drug purchasing and inventory.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routinely monitor, manage and control pharmaceutical inventories as appropriate. Determine and optimize inventory levels for UW Medicine facilities.

  • Monitor industry shortages and proactively manage on-hand inventories to minimize impact on the organization.

  • Manage and maintain 340B buyback program and ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.

  • Manage contract pharmacy replenishment in collaboration with the 340B Program Manager

  • Manage controlled substance procurement in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Collaborate with pharmacy operations managers at UW Medicine facilities to ensure inventory integrity. Serve on UW Medicine Controlled Substance Committee and actively participate in all aspects of UW Medicine's drug diversion prevention programs.

  • Ensure compliance with the Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA) and UW Medicine policies for drug recalls and market withdrawals.

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of UW Medicine pharmacy wholesalers and compliance with all state and federals laws regarding operation of a wholesale pharmacy.

  • Manage day-to-day inventory transfers between pharmacy sites.

  • Manage drug shortages and work in partnership with other pharmacy managers across UW Medicine.

  • Recruit, interview, evaluate and supervise pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, as applicable to the purchasing/procurement team.

  • Monitor UW Medicine formulary databases to maintain correct item selection in wholesaler databases.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly direct the work of purchasing/procurement pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

  • Interview and participate in the selection and hiring of pharmacist and pharmacy technicians.

  • Assure new employee orientation and ongoing training of purchasing/procurement staff.

  • Review the quality and quantity of work of the purchasing/procurement staff.

  • Conduct formal performance reviews and recommend corrective action, if necessary.

  • Ensure accuracy of leave records for purchasing/procurement staff.

  • Establish/adjust hours of work for purchasing/procurement staff.

  • Handle complaints and grievances from staff.

Strong candidates will have experience with pharmacy procurement and 340B compliance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy.

  • Current Washington state Pharmacist license.

  • Graduate degree in pharmacy and an ASHP-accredited residency are preferred; may substitute with 3-5 years of experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in the area of pharmacy practice.
