Job Summary/Essential JobFunctions: Under the guidance of the Chair of Surgery thisposition will work with medical directors of UTHSC Tissue Repository in settingup a system-wide Tissue Repository for the Personalized Medicine Initiative toestablish and initiate standard operating procedures for patient blood andtissue specimen collection and banking.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Workswith medical directors of UTHSC Tissue Repository to establish and initiatestandard operating procedures for patient blood and tissue specimen collectionand banking.
2.Collaborateswith Tissue Repository Study Coordinators to identify protocol candidatesconfirm consent and to coordinate blood and tissue collection, processing andarchiving.
3.Assistswith and provide oversight for protocol-specific study documentation,record-keeping and data management particularly as it relates to specimentracking.
4.Participatesin interval quality control and monitoring and ensure data integrity andconsistency.
5.Assistswith growth, development and refinement of the program through monitoring,troubleshooting and enhancement of specimen collection and archiving protocols.
6.Assistswith recruitment, training, development and supervision of future TissueRepository operations staff.
7.Performsother duties as required.
Bachelors of Nursing (BSN); must be licensed RN in the
State of Tennessee; five (5) years priorexperience in tissue specimen collections, clinical research and/or pathologylaboratory operations. Experience in supervising/leading a team with theability to set priorities and goals.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and to collaborate with a team and across other specialties/contacts.
Computer skills related to data management required.
Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to read, identify and extract pertinent data from medical records.
