Operations Manager

Description

FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for the operations of the low-level waste treatment, storage facilities and hazardous waste transfer facility operations. This is a salaried, exempt position.

DUTIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for the day-to-day operations of low-level waste treatment and storage facilities and the operations of hazardous waste transfer facility operations (transloading).

• Provide management direction to operations, laboratory, work control and administrative support.

• Coordinate with management personnel for all support groups (Radiation Protection, Maintenance, Safety, Quality Assurance, Engineering and Administration) to maintain compliance with Radioactive Materials License.

• Develop, review and revise operational procedures and processing methods to ensure procedures are used and followed correctly to maintain a safe and productive work environment; ensure functional area supervisors are properly trained/re-trained, as required.

• Management of the receipt, shipment, processing and tracking of customer and facility-generated waste; review analytical data for received wastes, and resolve discrepancies.

• Interface with customer service to ensure customer satisfaction and interface with procurement for process needs in maintaining inventory of essential items for processing and to reduce unnecessary costs to the company.

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including DOT, TNDOH, NRC and disposal site WAC (Waste Acceptance Criteria).

• Maintain operations in compliance with TDEC, DOH and OSHA regulations as well as other applicable state and federal regulations regarding safe handling, storing, and processing of radioactive, hazardous and mixed wastes.

• Maintain Revenue forecasting and recognition, and month-end reports such as revenue, surety, disposal accrual, and unbilled disposal forecast.

• Ensure all safety procedures are followed and all safety and processing equipment are available, in a safe condition, and are used properly.

• Radiological Safety Training; 24hr Hazardous Materials Training required.

• Must be able to wear respiratory protection on occasion (includes fit test and physical).

• Support the General Manager in the establishment of long- and short-term goals including financial budgets and reporting.

• Act as Emergency Coordinator, as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Dynamic working environment, normally 40 hours per week. Will work about equally in an office-type environment and overseeing of operations in progress in an industrial-type environment.

Requirements

Must possess very strong level of verbal and written communication skills with good management and organizational skills. High level of knowledge of DOT, and state and federal regulations regarding the safe handling of radioactive, hazardous and mixed wastes. Working knowledge of Microsoft-based software. Must possess good interpersonal skills and ability to elicit internal and external support and basic ability to make appropriate business judgment and recommendations independent of supervisor. Ability to work through problems with the ability to effectively negotiate and to work under pressure and short time lines. Bachelor's degree in related science field and/or equivalent training and management experience.
