Operations Manager
Office of the Coroner
Salary Range: $64,210 TO $83,762
Schedule: Every other weekend must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Schedule rotation yet to be determined. On-call as needed.
GENERAL DEFINITION:
The Office of the Coroner is a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year operation. This is administrative operations work at the full performance level in the Coroner's Office. This position oversees the day-to-day investigative operations of the Coroner's Office and reports directly to a higher administrative position.

Oversees the training of new deputies.
Interacts with other law enforcement/public safety agencies.
Reviews and develops investigative and operational policies.
Assists with annual budgets.
Provide staff support and oversight, and ensure that all functions operate in alignment with County guidelines
Notify employees of department rules and regulations, also County rules and regulations
Develop and report on goal-based performance metrics; foster a culture of quality improvement for continuous improvement
Work with management to establish office policies and procedures
Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
Work with management team to improve staffing, physical resources and a long-term plan for a variety of workplace improvements.
Be able to manage and direct staff in a forward and positive direction.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with families and others during times of tragedy.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, law-enforcement and investigative agencies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with ambulance services, fire departments and rescue personnel with whom this office comes in contact.
Ability to learn methods of identifying bodies otherwise unrecognizable (due to decomposition and fire-related deaths), including, but not limited to, photography, fingerprinting, dental examination, x-ray and DNA comparison.
Skilled in the use of photography equipment. Skilled in the use of desktop and notebook computers, teleconferencing equipment, as well as, other state of the art equipment used in death investigations. Skilled in the use of forensic equipment such as temperature devices, alternate light sources and other forensic or scientific devices.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the field of forensic operations is highly preferred
Leadership skills, ability to delegate, supervise and see tasks through from start to finish
Exceptional organizational skills to ensure that quality services are provided
Outstanding communication skills, both in written and verbal communication
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong computer skills working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to pass a security background check
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license, issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Attend, complete and pass the Pennsylvania Coroner's Education Board Basic Education Course, held at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. State mandated education course within 24 months of employment. This is a condition of employment.
Must become American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) certified as a Diplomate or Fellow within 24 months of employment. This is a condition of employment.
Must be able to lift and carry heavy items in all environments and terrains.
Must pass a criminal history background check.
