BlueLinx is looking for a Operations Manager in the Birmingham, AL area. You will have the opportunity to oversee the daily business dealings with our local branch. We are looking for a person who understands the importance of being a strong relationship builder, comfortable in leading a knowledgeable group of people and is comfortable working across the organization - with customers, with suppliers and with employees. The Operations Manager has responsibility for managing a staff of DOT CDL Drivers, Administrative Support, Material Handlers, and Sales Associates within an assigned geographical area. Strong communication skills and a passion for safety are key to this person's success. The Operations Manager oversees the delivery of our product to our clients in a timely and safe manner.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with and foster a good working relationship with Sales and Administrative functions.
- Safety- Ensures a safe workplace for associates and visitors.
- Understand DOT Regulations
- Compliance- Ensures compliance in all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to employment, safety, and DOT regulations.
- Manages a distribution center by providing excellent customer service support and using supply chain fundamentals (right product, right place, right time, every time) while controlling logistics, workforce management, and indirect and operating costs.
- Customer Service- Fills orders accurately, safely, on time and without damage.
- Efficiency- Manages material handling and delivery operations using productivity metrics.
- Expense- Manages labor expenses. Performs cycle counts and physical inventory according to accounting guidelines.
- Talent- Leads teams of materials handlers and drivers; selects/hires; develops objectives; coaches and evaluates performance.
- Ensures direct reports obtain applicable safety, compliance, and job training and development opportunities to enhance performance, development, and contributions to the company.
- Holds direct reports accountable for individual and team performance.
- Addresses performance issues appropriately and timely. May need to manage under the terms of a CBA.
- May be responsible for delivery of large volumes of assigned products to targeted accounts in geographical areas.
- Ensures effective product performance and promotes good customer and supplier relations.
- Develops and builds relationships with internal business units including branches, replenishment/supply chain team, product management, and Branch Sales and operations team.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience with BS / BA or equivalent distribution/warehouse experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience in a distribution/manufacturing operation.
- Solid Leadership skills - communication, employee engagement and goal expectations.
- Ability to teach and lead an engaged team in a structured process environment.
- Process improvement and operating efficiency competency.
- Branch operations and systems knowledge.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite Software and relevant tools/technology.
- Self-motivated, high energy, persistent, and sense of urgency
- Proven track record of operations success - the ability to drive and motivate the employee to perform at their top level.
- Demonstrated success in problem-solving - must be creative and innovative.
- Superior Interpersonal skills - proficient in both written and verbal communications
- Working knowledge of assigned product line, customer support/service, products, and inventory management.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
