The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $34.00 - $37.00/hour, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The Division of Green Infrastructure (DGI) is responsible for advancing green infrastructure policies, programs and projects that improve watersheds, create healthier built environments, and result in a more equitable and climate resilient Denver. With this growth comes an exciting opportunity for a talented, experienced, and passionate Maintenance Crew Lead. The Maintenance Crew Lead Position is key to the long-term success of green infrastructure facilities and will work directly with the DGI Maintenance Program Manager and two Horticulturists on day-to-day operations and maintenance of GI facilities. This work ensures a high level of performance and community aesthetics of a variety of green infrastructure facilities including streetside stormwater planters, raingardens, bioswales, constructed wetlands, and vegetated detention ponds built in neighborhoods across Denver.

Specifically, as the Crew Lead, you will:

  • Oversee and lead daily field operations, set routes, and schedules of internal and external crews to perform timely, effective, and routine maintenance of green infrastructure facilities including plant maintenance, weed mitigation, sediment removal, and trash collection.

  • Resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions to ensure a high level of performance for each GI facility.

  • Participate and lead retrofits and revegetation of existing GI facilities that are not performing as anticipated which requires the use of motorized construction equipment including Vac Combo truck, excavators, dump trucks, and/or watering trucks as well as small power/hand tools.

  • Ensure sufficient landscape materials, equipment, and proper tools are at the jobsite when needed.

  • Operate and maintain equipment for the assigned function.

  • Ensure a high level of safety while working in field and places and removes barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements.

  • Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

  • Track hours and costs for all maintenance activities in database.

  • May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs during severe weather and flooding.

Location

In this role, your reporting location will be at 2000 W. 3rd Ave., Denver, CO 80223, with responsibilities that entail fieldwork across various locations within Denver.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Experience leading a landscape/maintenance crew.

  • Knowledge around trees, vegetation, and green stormwater infrastructure.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Experience reading engineering drawings.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience as a member of a crew performing a wide variety of construction, maintenance, and repair work.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications:

  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
