POSITION OVERVIEW/PROGRAM OUTLINE:

The 2021 Ross Stores Distribution Center (DC) Operations Internship is a 10 week program designed to have candidates participate in all Distribution processes that will include: working with associates, supervisors, managers and directors to learn department functions of all areas of the DC.

Interns will contribute daily to our business objectives and become a part of our team. To ensure a supportive environment we will designate a skilled member of our Distribution Center management team to mentor our interns. Some off shift and weekend hours may be required in order to gain full exposure to the operation.

This internship prepares students for a potential career in Supply Chain Logistics, allowing you a real-world perspective on a career at Ross.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact on the Distribution Center floor with associates, area supervisors and management learning the department functions of all areas of the DC.

  • Participate in daily production goals.

  • Work with the team to evaluate existing operating methods and champion continuous improvement

  • Establish and maintain an open path of communication with DC Senior Leadership and associates

  • Gain broad exposure to our supply chain network and leadership team through daily partnerships with operation leaders

  • Shadow and eventually run shift start-up meetings

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must be enrolled in a 4-year non-profit university or college degree program with preference to Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Transportation, or related major.

  • Must currently be a Junior standing with expected graduation between December 2021 and August 2022.

  • Leadership and decision making skills

  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

  • MS Office with strong practical application of Excel skills

  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people at all levels

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with personal flexibility to meet changing business needs

  • Organized and detailed-oriented

VIEW JOBS 10/18/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-16T00:00 GENERAL PURPOSE: The Productivity Engineering Work Study participant is responsible for data collection and assists in the development of engineered methods and standards in a high volume mechanized distribution and logistics operation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: % OF TIME * Collects and assists in development of effective methods and procedures for Distribution Center floor operations. Identifies and evaluates improvements in methods, procedures, and workflow that increase productivity, and decrease operating cost. 20% * Collects, records and summarizes time study and work sampling data to support development of engineered labor standards. 60% * Assists with implementation of engineered methods, standards, and reporting systems - including assistance and follow-up on training and troubleshooting reporting problems. 15% Summary of other Job Duties: 5% * Maintains knowledge of production and incentive pay reporting applications. Assists with trouble-shooting data entry, reporting, and data collection problems. * Assists in the development of processes and mechanisms for labor forecasting, staffing, modeling, incentive performance/bonus reporting and tracking and other reporting as required to support management of engineering projects. * Advises and assists management with labor analyses and economic justification studies. Assists operating management with implementation of changes to established methods. * Prepares concept drawings, facility layouts, and workstation layouts to support facility and MHE projects. Time study, work measurement, and /or shop/warehouse floor data collection experience preferred. * Operations knowledge of distribution and related processes preferred. * Ability to effectively communicate and interact with non-exempt associates, operational supervisors, and middle management. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred. * Available to work varying schedule to perform DC-floor observations and data collection on 1st and 2nd Shifts as needed. * The ability to think in terms of process flow and identify operational component operations and interrelationships. * Detail-oriented with strong organizational and technical writing skills. * Experience in using PCs in a professional setting - developing and using standard applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processors as typical tools to execute.
