The primary role of the Operations Coordinator is to oversee the day-to-day supervision of the shelter staff in the emergency shelter. The Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all the aspects of their assigned shifts daily operations and completion of duties by the direct care staff and work with Director of Shelter Services on other administrative needs and responsibilities.

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the Youth Care Specialists deliver exceptional direct care services under the direction of the Director of Shelter Services and the therapeutic guidance of the residents active service plan.

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of scheduling, routine on-the-job training, the coordination of shelter activities, following policies and procedures, house maintenance and cleanliness, supporting the work of all direct care staff, creating a positive culture of care, ensuring youth participation in care and contributing to a positive relationship with the lead agency.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years experience with at risk youth in a residential setting with one year of supervisory experience; or any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to lead a team of direct care workers to ensure efficient operations of the shelter.

  • Ability to foster and maintain strong working relationships with local lead agencies.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Director of Shelter Services to ensure efficient operations of the shelter.

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel.


  • Valid Florida Driver's License.

  • CPR and First Aid, preferred.

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification, preferred.


  • Responsible for knowing and carrying out agency and shelter policies and procedures as dictated by the Policy and Procedures Manual and Director of Shelter Services.

  • Provide daily guidance and oversight to direct care staff.

  • Assist with and train staff on documentation and reporting requirements, child specific documentation and task specific documentation to ensure compliance with safety, licensing and contractual requirements.

  • Work with lead agency on documentation of youth events, needs and status.

  • Ensure the staff are completing the duties outlined in the shift expectations for each shift and demonstrate ability to provide guidance and supervision.

  • On call responsibilities as assigned.

  • Maintain regular, basic checks of shelter vehicles, to include tire air pressure, oil quality, and gasoline levels.

  • Review medication logs for accuracy and report to staff, Director of Shelter Services and nurse for changes needed or any supporting documentation regarding any medication administration issues.

  • Ensure frequent, regular communication with Director of Shelter Services to ensure all staff and shelter duties are being completed as required.

  • Manage schedule changes due to staff callout.

  • Conduct regular meetings with individual staff and shift teams to ensure staff are receiving frequent feedback regarding good work and areas of opportunity for growth.

  • Establish effective and positive relationships with staff.

  • Demonstrate ability and knowledge in effective communication and conflict resolution.

  • Maintain various outcome tracking reports.

  • Develop and communicate daily, weekly and monthly schedules for youth.

  • Manage the review and submission of documentation for upload to internal systems.

  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Lead regular team meetings with direct care staff.

  • Participate in service training that is required by regulatory entities and as assigned by the Director of Shelter Services and Compliance department.


Ability to read, write and speak the English language.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
