The Operational Risk Analyst will provide insight into the operational risks facing the global Investment Management Group (IMG) through risk analysis, post-mortem reviews, control design, and implementation of risk management strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies operational risk trends associated with the portfolio management process and develops risk mitigation strategies for future improvements. Proactively and independently, leads the development and implementation of action plans to remediate key risks to global investment management processes.

  • Oversight of Operational Risk incident management process to ensure the timeliness, integrity and quality control are maintained. Ensures that root cause and business impact analysis are appropriate, including review of the financial impact of operational incidents.

  • Supports Operational Risk Team in oversight of front office portfolio management trading activity. 1st line of defense in ensuring that pre trade compliance alerts and warnings, and holdings, are addressed accurately and remain in adherence to investment mandates for products domiciled in different global regions. Ensures integrity around forensic testing and other metrics. Leads the development and implementation of action plans to remediate key risks to global investment management processes.

  • Leads the consistent implementation of investment policies and procedures.

  • Monitors, reviews and communicates the impact to the risk profile of future state IMG and front office initiatives, including but not limited to new product assessments, changes to trading strategies (new instruments, new fund and account launches), targeted risk reviews and fundamental business changes.

  • Provides support for other operational risk functional crew, including Counterparty Risk Management, Model Control and Forensics, Identity and Access Management and Business Continuity Planning. Coordinates with other Vanguard lines of defense (i.e. Compliance, Internal Audit etc.).

  • Ensures that industry standards are current by developing and maintaining knowledge/expertise /awareness of financial markets and products and investments in different domiciles. Ensures that optimal use of technology is being utilized by developing and maintaining technical knowledge of systems and data.

  • Identifies, leads and participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Minimum of five or more years of related and progressive work experience.

  • Knowledge of Equity and Fixed Income Order Management Systems preferred.

  • Professionalism in managing multiple priorities and performing complex analysis under tight deadlines.

  • Strong working knowledge of mutual funds and investment operations or investment systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience designing, building and assessing operational risk, compliance and controls program.

  • Proven ability to interact and build effective working relationships with peers and senior management.

  • Expertise in MS Office applications.

  • Sound business judgment, ability to influence others, and ability to apply practical thinking.

As an Investment Risk Analyst you will be part of the front office Risk Management Group (RMG) for Investments, analyzing portfolio risk and composition across US and global equity portfolios. Qualifications * Undergraduate degree or equivalent education in quantitative discipline preferable. Progress towards advanced degree and/or professional certification (CFA, FRM) also preferred. * Minimum three years related analytical work experience. * Strong foundation of investment knowledge. * Knowledge of FactSet, Bloomberg, and Axioma preferred. * Ability to handle multiple, complex projects with attention to detail while meeting deadlines. * Experience with R, Matlab, SQL, VBA, Python or related programming languages desirable. * Demonstrated ability to function in a fast paced, dynamic working environment with multiple and diverse responsibilities. * Proven ability to analyze issues quickly and independently and take appropriate action under tight time constraints. * Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. * Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills. * Proven ability to interact and build effective working relationships with peers and senior management.
