What are the primary responsibilities in the Operational Orbit Analyst position?

  • Monitor the results of an astrodynamics software system and take corrective action as needed

  • Analyze results through applying a solid understanding of the underlying algorithms and subject matter

  • Work closely with developers to identify software and algorithm issues

  • Work closely with data providers to identify data issues

  • Develop tools to improve efficiency and identify anomalous performance

  • Provide suggestions for improvements to both software and work flow

What required background will make you successful?

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering (preferred), Astronomy, Applied Physics, or other equivalent field of discipline, or relevant work experience

  • Understanding of astrodynamics fundamentals

  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems

  • Basic scripting skills in one of the following languages (python, csh, bash)

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Ability to effectively and concisely communicate issues

  • Ability to identify and address issues quickly and effectively

  • Self-starter with excellent follow through and the ability to stay focused

  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance

  • US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED

Preferred skills:

  • Basic database skills (run SQL scripts, write simple SQL queries)

  • Familiarity with orbit determination / estimation theory

  • Familiarity with maneuver planning, reconstruction and characterization

For additional company information, please visit: www.mtsi-va.com Responsibilities Candidate will be responsible for planning, provisioning, conducting, and reporting fast-paced, streamlined fighter operational flight program, system, and subsystem flight test operations in support of the Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC) in Tucson, AZ. Candidate will develop and test various regular OFP updates, integration of new systems, and develop and validate tactics for legacy fighter aircraft systems including F-16s, A-10s, F-15s, and emerging air vehicles and unmanned systems. Candidate will research new technologies, plan and conduct ground and flight test events, support vendors during aircraft modifications and testing, operate on flightline, hangar, or ranges as required, deploy in support of test operations, attend off-site requirements and planning meetings, and advise government personnel on changes and technical developments in fighter combat systems technology. Candidate will work closely with the AATC Director of the F-16 OFP Combined Test Force (OFP-CTF), various system program offices, and industry vendors to formulate and implement commercial off-the-shelf and developmental improvements to these systems. Candidate will also collect and analyze data, and report on these developmental and operational tests. Candidate will be responsible for both conceptual and technical implementation of required software and hardware architecture, along with the efforts of AATC government and various SPO personnel. The successful candidate will provide expertise in the following areas: operational and developmental test planning & execution (particularly in the fighter aircraft environment); test plan formulation; basic aircraft/system data bus architectures to include PPD and mil-standard 1553 & Ethernet; AESA radar systems (air-to-air and air-to-surface applications); air-to-ground weapons testing/characterization, design of test to determine weapon accuracy (CEP/CEA); aircraft sensor systems, to include characterization of target location error (TLE) of various sensor/aircraft interfaces; tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) development; and data analysis tools. Candidate must have a firm understanding of the operation and tactical applications of all the above systems and their interfaces with all Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve aircraft and systems. Candidate will directly support AATC in the development of advanced combat systems from cradle to grave in an independent, high-energy environment and will operate in multidisciplinary teams of industry, government and military personnel consisting of engineers, analysts, scientists, pilots and other aircrew. Candidate must have a can-do attitude and be self-starting, ambitious, and hard-working. Qualifications Required Skills: Candidate should have at least 10 years experience as a pilot/WSO in operational and/or developmental test and evaluation; minimum 5 years experience with pertinent fighter systems and technology, strong knowledge of fighter sensor systems, strong desire to learn new systems and propose new ideas for fighter systems/sub-systems and design. Candidate should have experience with engineering analysis and design tools and data analysis tools. The candidate must have a strong ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated leadership and customer interface skills. The successful candidate should have good analytic skills and be capable of operating in a multi-tasking environment. The candidate must have strong verbal and written communications skills; a background in special access programs is highly desired. Extensive flight test and evaluation experience to include test plan writing, design of test, test execution, data analysis, and reporting is desired. Candidate must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record. Desired Skills: Graduate of USAF Weapons Instructor Course or equivalent, strong background in data analysis tools design/use and aircraft data bus architecture. Operational and/or test experience with legacy fighter platforms and systems. Familiarity with captive test ground and air munitions and associated cryptologic requirements. Education Requirements: B.S. in technical discipline is desired, preferably in aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science.
