Job Description:

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Operations Site Leader, and a critical member of the local leadership team, the Operational Excellence Leader actively drives operational performance through continuous improvement and strategy implementation in alignment with the "BW Way" business system. Partnering closely with the site Operations leaders, the Operational Excellence Leader is responsible for site-level operational efficiency improvements to products, processes and practices and for packaging platform-level operational strategy deployment. The individual will promote Operational Excellence through lean-principled and people-centric leadership (BW's L3/Lean strategy) having a direct positive impact on the business' operational and financial performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Co-champion change leadership with Operations Site Leader to drive Operational Excellence and optimize business performance.

  • Instill and maintain a site-wide "Performance Culture" where all team members are focused on driving improvements to the business including people performance, product innovation/enhancement, internal processes and practices, and delivering on the BWIS Customer Trust Experience.

  • Establish excellence standards, quality systems, metrics, visual communications, and best practices to execute efficiently and consistently.

  • Identify opportunities to improve Operational performance and reduce cost, develop plans, and lead projects/activities to realize savings and improvements using lean tools and strategy.

  • Coach, train and collaborate with leaders and team members on how to think, work and lead in a lean organization, develop both existing and new "lean experts."

  • Practice Leader Standard Work as a framework to create new habits of leadership behavior at all levels of the organization.

  • Establish, manage and track Operational Excellence programs and training.

  • Implement the "BW Way" business system through communication, training and execution.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Lean manufacturing and lean transformation experience.

  • Strong operational and business acumen.

  • Solid technical understanding and competence - experience in engineering, and/or working with automated equipment and products and capacity to understand technical processes and products, desired - not required.

  • Ability to lead coach, develop and inspire team members and achieve results and success through others.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and high social intelligence with the ability to build relationships and influence cross-functionally across all levels of leadership and frontline team members; able to gain trust and credibility easily and push back on leaders effectively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to develop and deliver impactful and effective presentations and training, and the skills to create visual management communications.

  • Drives results - sets compelling goals and aggressive schedules for improvement in all facets of Operations. Delivers always on commitments. Translates the Operations vision and strategy into practical, actionable, and quantifiable plans, and executes flawlessly. Makes timely decisions when a quick response is required and makes tough business decisions based on the facts of the case.

  • Competitive spirit and drive to win. Strong sense of initiative, internal motivation, and an unrelenting focus on results.

  • Project management experience, strong organizational skills including planning and scheduling abilities.

  • Acts with integrity, demonstrates sound business and professional ethics, shows consistency with principles, value, and behaviors; builds trust through own authenticity and follow-through on commitments.

  • Openness to feedback and coaching with a strong orientation towards continual learning and improvement ability to solicit, accept and provide direct feedback without defensiveness

  • Process thinker, analytically minded and passion for continuous improvement.

  • High level of flexibility and adaptability.

Education/Experience:

  • 7-10 years' Operational Leadership in lean-principled manufacturing or engineering position.

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business Management, Engineering, or relevant discipline.

  • Extensive experience with application and training in Lean methods, Black Belt certification or equivalent desired, not required.

  • MBA desired, not required.

ADA Requirements:

  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer.

  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly.

  • Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally.

  • Regular exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards.

  • Travel by air or car occasionally.
