Operating Systems Performance Testing EngineerOculus | Redmond, WA

Join Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) in the design of virtual and augmented reality systems. Come work alongside expert software engineers and research scientists to create the technology that makes AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world.

We are currently seeking an Operating Systems Performance Testing Engineer with strong design and build skills, passion for systems software, metrics, automation and regression testing. You are the kind of engineer who is performance-minded and has expertise creating reliable, robust, and performant automated testing systems for low-level software. You are comfortable building and designing system software testing labs that involve real hardware and you are not afraid of debugging problems in such test setups across all layers of the stack from HW to SW.

The ideal candidate is comfortable digging into complex systems, mining large sets of data, identifying optimizations, and working with different teams to develop solutions. You will contribute to the development of tools for performance investigation, power testing, regression tracking, and metrics reporting. These solutions span different layers of the system and sometimes require creative, unconventional thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Build world-class performance instrumentation and analysis infrastructure that will help us track our performance and power efforts over time

  • Debug and maintain software test frameworks

  • Build and implement test modules for system level, functional, and stress testing

  • Work across all the teams to utilize the test frameworks, figure out the right use cases and collect metrics

  • Automate efficiency measurement and analysis

  • Own high-visibility efficiency metrics

  • Help optimize CPU, memory, I/O, network and storage performance in AROS

  • Analyze data from across different dimensions and help define priorities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Architecture, Electronics, Electrical, or related field

  • Coding experience in any of the following: PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby or TCL

  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix environments, networking, and network boot

  • Communication experience

  • Knowledge of performance testing and regression methodologies

  • Experience with test automation frameworks, configuration management, and deployment automation tools (Puppet, Chef, Jenkins, Bosh)

  • Experience with software development processes including: source control, bug tracking, and design documentation

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with open source test frameworks

  • Experience building large-scale hardware/software testing labs

  • Expertise in performing power analysis and practical experience in building testbeds to collect the relevant power metrics
