Job Summary:
Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection prevention and control practices. Directs and checks work of others in the absence of management staff. Willingness to accept new ideas and work under stressful conditions. Participates in the department's performance improvement activities

Education Background and Experience:
Minimum Education:
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a Surgical Technology program.
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Active Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
Current BCLS Certification
Preferred Licensure / Certifications:
Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or NCCT.
Preferred Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in the operating room/sterile processing. Graduate of accredited school may count as (1) one year.

Essential Job Functions:
Adapts procedures to meet individual needs of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients for treatment.
Demonstrates competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.
Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles); follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to Circulating RN and surgeon and/or corrects immediately.
Follows aseptic technique, when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
Anticipates needs of surgeon during intraoperative phase.
Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies, when necessary and organizes effectively for end-of-case clean up.
Compensation/How We Care For You:
Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($25.25 - $29.74/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
