The Charge Nurse is a professional nurse supervisor who provides guidance and direction to the surgery center's clinical staff, and is responsible for assuring that nursing care is provided in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures, established standards of nursing care and practice, and as defined by the State of Illinois. Under direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, he/she supervises the day-to-day clinical operations of the Operating Rooms, including coordination of patient care, troubleshooting of problem areas and the supervision of a professional team which includes nurses, surgical assistants and other staff as appropriate
Responsibilities

Personnel Supervision:
Direct, coordinate staff scheduling assignments, inventory control, and operating room turnover efficiency.
Work closely with team to facilitate efficiency and patient/physician satisfaction.
Oversee daily functions and staffing of operating rooms and make decisions, authorize, and act in absence of Nurse Director.
Assures that nursing staff provides patient care in accordance with the Center's policies and procedure, established nursing standards of care and practice, and as defined by the State of Illinois.
Assist in promoting a positive atmosphere for staff, patients and physicians
Leadership:
Identifies opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the Center.
Facilitates patient flow, communication, and problem resolution.
Assists with implementation of policies and programs.
Serves as a resource person and role model for staff.
Project Coordination:
Serves, as assigned, on the Center's QI projects.
Communication:
Effectively communicates with medical, clinical and administrative staff to ensure the efficient operations of the Center.
Effectively communicates with physicians and visitors to resolve inquiries.
Recognizes the need, and responds in a timely manner, to inform Nurse Manager, Administrator and/or Medical Director of operational issues within areas of responsibility
Qualifications
The Experiences You Bring:
Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Illinois.
BLS
Preferred ACLS
Preferred BS/BSN
Preferred. Minimum of five (5) years experience in OR, preferably in an outpatient setting, with supervisory experience.
