JOB DESCRIPTION:

RN Operating Room Circulator is responsible for the nursing activities related to care of the patient experiencing an operative or other invasive procedure. The Operating Room Registered Nurse is a resource and provides guidance to non-licensed personnel. This individual can expect to care for adults patients, including the older adult through geriatric and pediatric patients from 1 month through adolescence.

  • Assisting with equipment and processing of necessary tools

  • Serving as a patient advocate and ensuring patient safety at all times

  • Assisting the surgeon with invasive procedures

  • Assisting with positioning the patient

  • Monitoring the patient's condition throughout the entire surgical process and acting quickly to respond to any changes

  • Maintaining the sterile field at all times

  • Exhibiting skillful clinical judgment and assessment skills

Required Skills:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years previous OR experience REQUIRED. No new graduates or RNs without previous circulating experience will be considered.

  • Current Texas License as a Registered Nurse.

  • Current in BLS, ACLS and PALS required.

  • CNOR preferred

  • Possess the ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities.

  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, families, physicians, and employees.

  • Knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures specific to operating room nurse.

  • Clinically proficient in operating room nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the development needs of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.

He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. This position can provide the above-described services for both basic surgeries and complex surgeries.</p><p>Shifts Available</p><ul><li>Tuesday, Thursday &amp; Friday 6:45AM - 7:15PM</li></ul><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li><p>Cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal sterilization on completion of the surgery. Assisting the surgical team with cleaning of the operating room on completion of the surgery for the next scheduled procedure.</p></li><li><p>Has developed proficiency in a wide range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.</p></li><li><p>Understands the roles of all immediate team members and has a good understanding of how own team integrates with others.</p></li><li><p>Explains complex technical information in situations that may be challenging with respect to controversial subject matter or characteristics of the audience</p></li><li><p>Works within defined processes but may develop an appropriate approach for new assignments Work Experience</p></li><li><p>At least 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist Education</p></li><li><p>High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Required</p></li></ul><p>License and Certifications</p><ul><li><p>Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization. (Certification is not required if the employee has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or was employed as a surgical technologist prior to September 9, 2009. Required</p></li><li><p>If assigned to Sterile Processing &amp; Distribution must obtain Central Sterile Processing certification 180 Days Required</p></li><li><p>Current Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification.
