Magee - Women's Hospital of UPMC is hiring a Full-Time Operating Engineer to support their Plant Maintenance Management Department.

This position will work rotating shifts. Rotating weekend and holiday availability may be required to support the hours of operation.

*Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

Purpose:

Performs a wide variety of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair functions necessary to maintain the facility's steam, power and equipment in accordance with schematics, plans, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Examines, tests, repairs or replaces such elements of systems as described in the preventive maintenance procedures.

  • Maintains the necessary personal tools to carry out craft duties and keeps tools in a safe and reliable condition.

  • Performs minor air conditioning repairs and adjustments.

  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on a variety of plant equipment to include pressure vessels, boiler systems, medical oxygen, air and vacuum distribution equipment.

  • Identifies and reports problem areas, hazards and emergencies.

  • Records and submits a Daily Engineer's Report as designated by Departmental policy.

  • Performs the necessary documentation for the scheduled switchgear and emergency generator testing as outlined in the Preventive Maintenance Procedures.

  • Demonstrates safe work habits.

  • Responds to work requests as outlined in Administrative Policy #18, Facilities Management Services.

  • Updates plans and drawings as required to reflect work carried out.

Qualifications:

  • Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through high school and advanced technical school.

  • 3 years stationary engineer's experience required in order to:

  • acquire a thorough knowledge of engineering procedures.

  • acquire a working knowledge of equipment and building systems.

  • acquire suitable analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • Work experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

  • Successful demonstration of the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit.

  • This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Third-Class Power Engineer license or higher

  • Stationary Engineer

  • Act 34
