The City of Norfolk's Department of General Services, Facilities Maintenance division is seeking an Operating Engineer I who will perform operation, maintenance and minor repairs. Make minor repairs throughout facilities as necessary. Maintain integrity of building systems.

Essential Functions

Department Hiring Salary: $27,438

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, or replace security system components:

  • Monitors, cameras, and DVRs for Surveillance/CCTV Systems

  • Video/Voice Intercom Door Stations and Video/Voice Inside Stations for Intercom Systems

  • Card Readers, door locks, and motion detectors for Premisys Access Control Systems

  • Keypads, motion detectors, door contacts, and glass break sensors for Instrusion/Alarm Systems

  • Fiber optic receivers and transmitters for networking

Receives and processes building access requests by City Department security liaisons. Maintains and updates user data within software program(s) for access control system. Coordinates repairs with vendors when necessary. Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

One year of experience.

Preferred applicant will possess:

  • One year of experience in Security Systems such as: access door control systems; video surveillance and recording equipment; and/or intercom systems.

  • Valid Driver's License and be able to provide recent a copy of their DMV transcript at the time of the interview.

VIEW JOBS 4/15/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-14T00:00 Description The City of Norfolk's Department of Public Works is seeking a self-motivated and team-oriented Civil Engineer (Mechanical/Building Systems Engineer) within the Design Division. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for planning, design and construction processes for building systems, specifically in plumbing, mechanical and electrical including lighting, with an emphasis on Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems. The Department of Public Works builds, maintains and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk's citizens, businesses and visitors, including the City's Street Network, Traffic Management System, Storm Water System, Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Design Division procures and manages design and construction for approximately $61.1 million in Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). These projects include alterations, dredging, development, maintenance, rehabilitation, renovations, and repairs to new and existing City buildings, beaches, bridges, bulkheads, channels, curbs and gutters, infrastructure, parking garages, sidewalks, streets, and streetscapes. Essential Functions Essential functions include, but are not limited to: * Plans and manages building system design projects, from planning through construction and start-up. * Manages project budgets and schedules and meets deadlines. * Reads construction plans and specifications, especially for projects that include building systems. * Participates on multi-discipline project teams, sometimes acting as team leader. * Performs the role of project spokes-person for meetings both internal and external to the Department. * Confers with Bureau Manager and City Engineer on project status and changes to project scope, schedule and budget. * Performs duties and assignments as a positive and effective Project Manager. * Prepares facility assessment and project progress reports and strategic plans. Civil Engineer I Department Hiring Range: $52,020 - $86,041 Civil Engineer II Department Hiring Range: $56,314 - $92,075 Civil Engineer III Department Hiring Range: $60,149 - $98,068 Civil Engineer IV Department Hiring Range: $64,260 - $104,872 Education/Experience Civil Engineer I Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. No experience required. Civil Engineer II Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Two years experience. Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification or equivalent required. Civil Engineer III Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Bachelor's degree-level of study. Master's preferred. Four years experience as an Engineer. Professional Engineer's License is required. Civil Engineer IV Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Bachelors degree-level of study. Masters preferred. Five years as an Engineer.
