Position Summary

Job Summary

Responsible for providing expert support and guidance to faculty members and researchers in their scholarly activities and in lowering the textbook cost burden on students. This position advances research and scholarship initiatives within the academic institution, promotes open access principles, and facilitates faculty engagement with scholarly communication processes.

Supports the academic community's access to high-quality, openly available educational materials. This position is responsible for overseeing the development, organization, and promotion of open educational resources (OER) within the library. Will collaborate with faculty and students to promote the adoption and creation of open educational resources, facilitate their discovery and use, and provide support for the integration of OER into the curriculum.

This position is a key member of the Public Services and Instruction team. This position will also serve as liaison to academic departments as assigned and as a member of the faculty with rank, but without tenure, as per the Susquehanna Faculty handbook. This position is defined as an exempt position under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and curate a wide range of open educational resources (OER) relevant to the curriculum.

  • Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness of OER among faculty and students, and to promote faculty adoption and use of OER for classes.

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and adapt OER materials to meet instructional needs.

  • Collect and analyze data on the usage, impact, and pedagogical effectiveness of OER within the institution, providing reports and recommendations for improvement.

  • Advise faculty on publishing options, open access initiatives, and author rights to maximize the visibility and impact of their research.

  • Provide instruction to students and faculty in the use of library and other information resources.

  • Participate in reference and research services for students and faculty, including occasional evening or weekend work.

  • Provide liaison support to academic departments for curriculum-related, research and collection development activities.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with faculty members, academic departments, and research units to understand their scholarly work and foster collaboration.

  • Grow and develop professionally by staying informed on emerging trends and best practices in OER, open access, and digital scholarship, and contribute to the library's strategic planning initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education

ALA-accredited MLS, or other relevant graduate degree.

Experience

One year of experience working in an academic library, in publishing, or a similar educational environment strongly preferred.

Experience in curating, developing, or adapting OER materials preferred.

Experience in planning and delivering instructional sessions, workshops, or online tutorials focused on information literacy and scholarly communication preferred.

Experience working in a library with a diverse population strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

The person in this position must have knowledge of the textbook cost impact on students and strategies for lowering costs, knowledge of scholarly communication principles, copyright, open access, and intellectual property issues in an academic setting, knowledge of research methods and the scholarly research process, knowledge of emerging trends, tools, and technologies in digital scholarship, data management, and research metrics, knowledge of open educational resources, copyright, open licenses, and Creative Commons, and knowledge of relevant technologies, platforms, and tools for managing and disseminating OER. They must have strong communication, presentation, and instructional skills, and they must have the ability to collaborate with faculty and academic departments in a higher education setting, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic environment.

Additional Requirements

This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.
