Position Description:

Rowan University's newly launched Catalysts for Sustainability program seeks to hire new faculty to develop, advance, communicate and catalyze solutions to humanity's most pressing existential threats posed by the climate and biodiversity crises. The university-wide cohort will lead and collaborate across colleges, disciplines, and communities, catalyzing new initiatives in sustainability research, advocacy, and education while leveraging existing strengths.

This project builds upon Rowan University's strategic pillars (access, affordability, quality, and serving as an economic engine) and furthers our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise related to the climate and biodiversity crises in one or more of the following areas: environmental justice; education and public engagement including storytelling; public policy and advocacy; discipline-specific sustainability scholarship; and sustainability practice. Successful candidates will address the heart of the concerns of equity, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Specifically for Chemical Engineering, we are seeking candidates in the broad area related to Sustainability, including materials and processes, experimentation and computation, from molecular to systems approaches, and applications in energy and the environment.

As part of this Strategic Initiative of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering at Rowan University to invest in the broad area of Sustainability, the Department of Chemical Engineering at Rowan invites applicants with such expertise for a tenure-track or tenured position at the assistant, associate, or full Professor levels.

This position will provide collaborative opportunities with multidisciplinary researchers in pursuing sustainability solutions and policies. We seek an outstanding individual with a strong potential or proven record for excellence in research, in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and in promoting a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Senior level candidates with exceptional achievements and demonstrated impact will have the opportunity to be considered for the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering Foundation Professorship.

Candidates working towards solutions to the climate and/or biodiversity crises will be considered. The areas of expertise include but are not limited to the following: systems and industrial engineering that enhances sustainability; advanced green manufacturing processes; methods for greenhouse gas reduction or sequestration; renewable energy; sustainable materials, sustainable food systems; and habitat restoration in the service of conservation biology.

The candidate is expected to spur cross-disciplinary collaboration and also develop new masters and doctoral courses. This position is seeking dedicated agents of change, and a willingness to work with government agencies, NGOs, and industries to address the climate and biodiversity crisis. The successful candidate will be a dedicated and skilled communicator, willing to share their insights with the public, through many forms of media.

Rowan Chemical Engineering is a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate program that provides students with an integrated and immersive learning experience. Unique to this experience are year-long Engineering Clinics that provide opportunities for undergraduate students hands-on projects to solve technical and research problems, for graduate students to mentor undergraduate student teams, and for faculty to collaborate with industry and agencies on research.

Research by our faculty are in the broad areas of advanced manufacturing, energy and the environment, pharmaceutical processing, polymer composites and thin films, process systems engineering, sustainable materials, and water treatment. Our department faculty leads the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Institute (AMMI) that serves as the collaborative nexus, bringing together multidisciplinary Rowan researchers and stakeholders in the search for globally sustainable materials solutions. The AMMI together with our department house state-of-the-art materials processing and characterization facilities.
