The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Education, Department of Counseling welcomes applications for the position of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Counseling.

Salary Range

Assistant Professor: $63,000.00 to $66,000.00

Associate Professor: $67,000.00 to $75,000.00

Full Professor: $76,000.00 to $81,000.00

Essential Functions

This faculty position will serve the Department of Counseling with duties related to teaching, research and service. The faculty member will join a vibrant faculty focused on delivering high quality master's programs in Mental Health and School Counseling.

The position will serve the needs of a rapidly growing program area fueled by donor-endowed scholarships and tight connections to local schools and the behavioral mental health community. Excellent instruction focused on preparation of professionals to enter roles in the field is essential as is a focused agenda for scholarship and community engagement closely connected to teaching assignments. This is a tenure track position.

1.Teaching:

This faculty member will teach courses in the Master of Arts program in Counseling as well as supervision of students during their clinical/field experiences. Specific course assignments will be commensurate with the faculty member's strengths and expertise as well as the needs of the program.

Courses in related areas may also be assigned. Course loads will be 9 semester hours for each term, Fall and Spring.

2.Research:

The faculty member will be expected to develop and implement an agenda for scholarship that results in high-quality manuscripts suitable for presentation at state, regional, and national/international conferences and publication in rigorous peer-refereed outlets. Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to pursue external funding (i.e., grants and/or philanthropic giving) to support the research agenda.

3.Service:

The faculty member will also engage in service to the University, the profession, and the community.

Required Qualifications

1.Doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP accredited university.

2.Demonstrated scholarly excellence or strong potential for productivity as a scholar.

3.Background as a counseling practitioner. Three years of counseling experience at the P-12 level and/or professional counseling experience with eligibility for licensure as a professional counselor in Texas.

4.Willingness to participate in cross-disciplinary projects.

5.Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work within a team when supporting new initiatives and partnerships in the College of Education and across the University.

6.Ability to relate well to a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and parents, including under-served populations and first-generation students and parents.

7.Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an appropriate understanding of the needs of the audience, and appropriate professionalism.

8.Interest in the professional and personal growth and career development of students.

9.Ability to accept and render constructive criticism in a professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Doctoral specialization in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling.

2.Experience teaching a wide array of graduate-level counseling courses.

3.Experience supervising master's level counseling students in practicum and internship experiences.

4.Demonstrated experience in innovation within the field of counseling, including the use of evidence-based practices and innovative technology.

5.Record of high-quality professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

6.Established record of obtaining external funding and/or participating in grant-funded projects.

7.Experience teaching via traditional and alternative (i.e., online, hybrid) delivery methods.

8.Experience in innovation within the field of education, including the use of evidence-based practices and innovative applications of technology.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.

6.Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
