The Department of Psychology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment Open Rank Lecturer II or III (plus two month summer contract), commensurate with experience and degree to begin April 1, 2024. The department seeks to hire a lecturer to direct our Basics in Addiction Counseling (BAC) program, which is a concentration within the Psychology Major that provides academic coursework and applied clinical experience to help prepare students for careers in the addiction counseling field.

This position entails both teaching undergraduate courses directly related to the BAC program and provision of clinical supervision for these clinical trainees.

The successful candidate will be in charge of posting announcements for application deadlines for students to enter the BAC program, meeting with prospective applicants, reviewing applications, interviewing the applicants, and meeting with the faculty committee to determine acceptances into the program. This position also entails being an ambassador to work with local substance use disorder or behavioral health treatment agencies to arrange internships for the BAC trainees.

This position may also entail service activities to the department or university such as supporting Collegiate Recovery. The successful candidate has the opportunity to mentor bright students along their educational and career trajectories and help direct the BAC program to ensure people with addictions receive effective and compassionate care

All Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the Psychology Department's workload policy and University policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1.M.S, M.A., M.S.W., M.F.T., or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, behavioral health, social work, or related field completed by start date of appointment (April 1, 2024)

2.Licensed clinician at the master's degree level

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Demonstrated strength in teaching at the undergraduate and/or professional (e.g., CEUs, workshops) levels

2.Ability to mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

3.Demonstrated ability to supervise clinical trainees in behavioral health services (e.g., clinicians, counselors, case managers)

4.Experience working in the substance use or chemical dependency or related field

5.A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
