Job Announcement for Open Rank in Counselor Education

The University of New Mexico College of Education, Department of Individual Family and Community Education, invites applications for two (2) Open Rank Professor positions in Counselor Education for the 2024-25 academic year. The positions may commence as early as August 2024, but shall remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in counselor education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide advisement to undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to other professional service, the candidate will participate in admissions and assessments/evaluations, and contribute to overall program development.

Finally, the candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda, as broadly defined in our department and university. The successful candidate will have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program by August 12, 2024.

The UNM College of Education and Human Sciences, comprised of five academic departments, is a future-oriented, dynamic professional school. The Department of Individual, Family and Community Education is one of the largest departments in the college with the uniqueness of having Counselor Education, Educational Psychology, Family and Child Studies, and Nutrition/Dietetics together as an academic unit. The department has both undergraduate and graduate programs.

UNM is the premier research university in the state of New Mexico, as well as a Carnegie R1 Highest Research Activity Institution and a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. The Family and Child Studies Program is partnering with ADVANCE at UNM, an NSF Institutional Transformation grant, to help recruit and retain an excellent and diverse faculty.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Ph.D. by appointment date with specialization in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program, or have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013

  • Evidence of a promising counseling research agenda as demonstrated by publication and presentation activity

  • Ability to teach graduate courses in Clinical Mental Health and/or School Counseling

Preferred requirements:

  • New Mexico licensed, or licensed eligible, for school counseling practice and/or the independent practice of mental health and approved to supervise LMHCs by start date Specialization in Counselor Education

  • Specialization in School Counseling and/or Clinical Mental Health

  • Potential for assuming an active role in all program activities including accreditation, community outreach, and facilitating and maintaining program protocol.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities

  • Demonstrated leadership in Counselor Education, as demonstrated by progressive leadership positions in counseling programs, regional/state, and/or national organizations
