The Department of Neurosurgery at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to serve as a fellowship trained skull base neurosurgeon. The ideal candidate for this position will be board eligible or certified with a demonstrated ability to develop a strong academic skull base program.

Preference will be given to those with a broad range of capabilities including advanced skull base techniques. The surgeon will have a primary responsibility of expanding skull base neuro-oncology and will work in collaboration with other departments to further develop the multidisciplinary neuro-oncology program. The candidate will be expected to supervise medical students, neurosurgery residents and fellows.

Exceptional teamwork, communication skills, program development, teaching and mentorship abilities are essential. This position does not require sufficient teaching, research, or service to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Teaching 15%

Teach in the Medical College of Georgia and/or the School of Graduate Studies and mentor graduate students.

Research 75%

Establish vigorous independent extramurally funded research program/s to complement research strengths and goals of DNRM and the University.

Service 10%

Participate on various committees and provide public and professional service to the community and the department/college/University/USG.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Medicine or PhD in Biological Sciences.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

• Evidence of ability as a teacher;

• Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

• Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

• Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Should have extramural funding and demonstrate potential for its continuation.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
