Advisory/Online Teacher (Grades K-12)

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the regional administrator the primary responsibility of the online teacher shall be the mentorship of students. Mentorship shall include student guidance, discipline, welfare, and safety as well as direct supportive instruction in subject areas for which they are highly qualified and guided access to teaching team members who are highly qualified in individual subject areas as appropriate to the student's needs. The teacher plans for student success based on assessed needs. Each teacher shall demonstrate empathy, rapport, objectivity, and listening skills. The teacher is expected to assist the Baker Charter Schools efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate school's program and do related work as required. In carrying out their responsibilities, teachers shall follow Baker Charter School's policy, standard practices, and administrative unit regulations. Teacher shall establish a professional growth plan and annually review progress.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

1.Create and maintain effective environments for student learning.
2.Use instructional strategies that are supported by research and engage all students in learning.
3.Implement and enhance the school's state assessment and local assessment agenda.
4.Understand and organize subject matter for student learning.
5.Access and maintain the school's Student Information System
6.Provide weekly and periodic reports on student progress and work completed to their administrator
7.Assess and plan for student learning.
8.Grow in professional practice.
9.Effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff.
10. Maintain acceptable student behavior.
11. Use appropriate assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
12. Utilize effective practices to build a community of learners.
13. Understand child and adolescent development and apply knowledge to curriculum selection, use of instructional practices, and student learning needs.
14. Utilize skills/strategies for meeting the diverse needs of students.
15. Demonstrate a firm grasp of curriculum, teaching tools, and resources.
16. Utilize technology to aid instruction and meet Baker Charter Schools' requirements.
17. Demonstrate the ability to design and monitor a continuing professional growth plan.
18. On a daily basis come prepared to work and support Baker Charter Schools' mission.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the regional administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Frequent travel to students' homes and the teachers local student center is required. Occasional travel across the state for all-staff meetings is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of multiple curriculums and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
The teacher works from their home office, student center, and students homes. The work environment is often controlled and quiet, but will also frequently include moderate to loud noise. The work environment may include exposure to unpleasant interior temperatures, dirt, communicable diseases, and distraught or difficult individuals. The work requires regular focus on a computer screen and precise control of fingers and hand movements. Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting up to 20 pounds and may also be required on occasion.

Qualifications Profile
1.Must possess an active Oregon teaching license with endorsements in the subjects that the teacher is assigned to teach.
3.Must possess a valid driver's license, running vehicle, and appropriate automobile insurance
4.Must possess job-related experience providing the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job.
5.Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Education
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
Masters Degree preferred.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
