The eCampus Center in the Division of Extended Studies is enthusiastically seeking candidates to fill an Online Course Technologist position.

Position Overview

  • The Online Course Technologist oversees the revision and maintenance of online courses in the LMS

  • Responsible for ensuring e-learning technologies work together in a master course shell

  • Responsible for "pilot testing" course materials in the LMS from a student perspective

  • Responsible for the final quality assurance testing of revisions and maintenance of online courses in the LMS

  • Approaches and treats all internal and external stakeholders involved with online courses as valued constituents

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Course Building, and Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the build and structure of online master courses, ensuring all technologies function appropriately and work seamlessly together

  • Oversee student workers helping with revision and maintenance projects

  • Provide usability, accessibility, and quality assurance testing to review the functionality of online course components

  • Provide expertise with LMS features, sharing and documenting best practice in building courses to leverage LMS and reporting features

Master Course Maintenance and Live Course Technical Support

  • Provide technical LMS administration and course support services for online program coordinators and faculty through phone calls, email, and personal contact

  • Providing training and course support to online faculty who are teaching from a copy of a master course

  • Work with stakeholders to manage technical and logistical aspects of the copying online course sections of the master course

  • Meet with faculty and program coordinators/department chairs to ensure master courses are kept up to date, and help ensure program-level updates and revisions are made to master courses

  • Provide eCampus staff technical support and training to on LMS features and functionality

  • Assist instructional designers and faculty with online course updates and maintenance of materials in the LMS, CMS, including maintaining the technological quality of online course sections

  • Oversees master course revisions and updates

Documentation, Testing and Research

  • Play a lead role in exploring, communicating and testing upgrades, new features and new versions of instructional technologies

  • Research, recommend and implement third party tools to integrate with LMS (in collaboration with LTS) or to facilitate course production and course improvement processes

  • Document internal production processes and procedures and report to stakeholders

  • Serve as technical liaison with OIT/LTS

Minimum Qualification (Including Certificates and Licenses)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 2 years work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the area of assignment

  • Expert-level knowledge of the Blackboard Learn system

  • Familiarity with HTML coding and creating content using web-based authoring tools

  • Familiarity with LMS and SCORM integration

  • Familiarity with databases and/or project management software

  • Familiarity with CMS and/or knowledge base applications

Salary and Benefits: Salary starting at $48,069 per year, commensurate with experience. We also offer an excellent benefits package.

Specifically, this position manages the LMS environment for employee development and training. Liaise with campus departments to coordinate and support web-based instruction. Develop web-based content. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Technology Support * Consult with instructors, designers, and other users to determine appropriate and effective solutions using instructional technologies * Resolve escalated issues, and coordinate with both Tier 1 (Helpdesk), Application administrators, and vendors as appropriate to ensure timely and successful resolution Evaluation of Products and Solutions * Play a lead role in selecting, planning, and releasing new solutions Software Administration * Configure roles and permission settings for instructional technologies * Manage interface design and display settings * Manage, test, and deploy features and services * Coordinate with vendors or other IT units to identify patches, hotfixes, etc. and participate in the testing and communication of fixes * Play a lead role in exploration, communication, and testing of upgrades, new features and new versions Operations * Document internal processes, policies and procedures * Create custom documentation for internal audiences (sub-administrators, eCampus Center, etc.) * Develop effective and efficient workflows both internally and for end users Knowledge Management * Create and revise general documentation (self-help resources, web content, etc.) Training and Outreach * Coordinate with other stakeholders (OIT, Operations, HR, eCampus Center, users, committees) to ensure there is broad input, involvement and endorsement of changes * Conduct workshops and training sessions about instructional technology * Plan and manage conferences and workshop series * Partner with other units such as HR, Operations, Housing and Residence Life, Compliance, and Extended Studies to maximize support and development efforts for employees. Other Duties * Create multimedia educational resources and learning objects * Participate in committees and governance * Assist non-academic departments in their selection and use of instructional technologies Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience plus 2 years in a similar type of work. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of customer service experience, preferably providing LMS or other instructional technology (e.g., multimedia systems, eportfolios) support in an academic environment Salary: The Instructional Technologist 2 salary starts at $52,977, commensurate with experience.
