Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor and immediate supervision of the Oncology Pharmacist, the Oncology Sterile Preparation Pharmacy Technician performs pharmaceutical tasks within the scope of the position. Assists in the overall operation of the oncology pharmacy by providing safe, accurate and timely chemotherapy compounding and assists Pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical therapy in the Cancer Center. This position ensures that Sterile Compounding education/training for all employees is identified and provided, provides objective input on the performance of Techs in Sterile Preparation area and ensures competency testing for Sterile Product Preparation, Chemotherapy and Parenteral Product Preparation is conducted on all Pharmacy staff. Performs quality assurance activities as assigned in order to ensure compliance with the Board of Pharmacy, USP <797>, and USP <800> regulations. Monitors the sterile compounding area for compliance with regulations, provides timely remedial education to staff, and alerts pharmacy leadership with any identified issues.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
High School Graduate or equivalent required.
Current CA Pharmacy Technician License is required upon hire.
Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) certification required within one year of hire.
Sterile Preparation Certification required within two years of hire.
Knowledge:
Six months experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an acute care hospital pharmacy, providing unit dose and IV additive service or home care pharmacy strongly preferred.
Knowledge of medications and use, the ability to read physician orders and familiarity with medical terminology is required.
Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred.
Knowledge of Board of Pharmacy, USP<797>, and USP <800> regulations as they related to sterile compounding
