  • The Society has a very conservative grooming policy. Tattoos may not be visible or must be appropriately covered while on duty. Jewelry may be worn if it does not detract from a well-groomed look or create a safety hazard. No facial or tongue piercing.

The Security Officer provides for the safety of visitors, employees, and animals, and protects Society property. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication and report writing skills. Computer proficiency required. Ability to use security-related equipment is necessary. A minimum of two years Security, military or law enforcement experience is required. Firearms proficiency a plus. Applicants must be available to work any shift and any of the seven days of the week. Shifts will vary. The work hours will vary 0 to 29 hours per week. Some weeks will be without any scheduled work hours. Successful applicant will be required to complete a written report and pass a background check.


  • Must have a valid guard card.

  • Must have or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid pepper spray permit.

  • Must complete the approves first aid/CPR course within 2 weeks of hire.

  • Must have a valid California driver license.

One essential function for this position is the ability to drive a SDZ Global vehicle. If you are offered employment, you will be asked to authorize SDZ Global to access your current driving report through the DMV's Employer Pull Notice Program. Your hiring for this position will be contingent on SDZ Global receiving an acceptable driving report for you. In addition, your continued employment in the position will depend on you maintaining an acceptable driving report from you. You may obtain a list of conditions that disqualify a person from driving an SDZ Global vehicle from a Human Resources Representative. (REPOSTED 9/27/18, 10/15/18)

The Security Officer provides for the safety of visitors, employees, and animals, and protects Organization property. This position reports to the Supervisor.


  • Assists visitors and provides a variety of information

  • Responds to visitor complaints

  • Assists with lost children

  • Provides security during movement of animals

  • Locks and unlocks doors and gates as appropriate

  • Escorts staff transporting money

  • Secures vault

  • Assists in training as needed

  • Maintains assigned weapons, equipment, and vehicles

  • Responds to animal escapes according to procedures

  • Provides dispatching assistance

  • Monitors radio communication

  • Adheres to all SDZ Global and department policies and practices

  • Practices the GRRREAT Customer Service Standards


  • Responds to medical needs and a variety of other emergencies according to procedures

  • Monitors safety of visitors, employees, and animals by checking for safety hazards while patrolling grounds, parking lots, and gift shops

  • Escort visitors

  • Programs electronic lock and key systems, cashes checks according to procedures

  • Participates in the apprehension/arrest of burglars, vandals, trespassers, and other unauthorized persons

  • Transports visitors, staff, and material to various locations

  • Transports, logs, and returns lost and found items

  • Tests alarms

  • Cuts and distributes keys as appropriate

  • Repairs, removes, and installs locks as assigned

  • Provides routine office assistance as assigned

  • Submits incident reports and other documentation as required

  • Maintains a variety of contacts in order to respond to inquiries and requests and to effectively coordinate activities

  • Distributes pay checks as assigned

  • Checks security of animal enclosures, buildings, facilities, and gates, verifies proper identification

  • Makes public address announcements; monitors solicitors according to procedures

  • May assist law enforcement officers with crowd control and surveillance at large public events.


Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.


Experience in security field is desirable or a related field or equivalent specialized training knowledge, and skills; possession of Powers to Arrest Card, valid permit to carry Pepper Spray, First Aid Card, valid California driver license, and CPR card.
