The Opportunity:

OVERVIEW:

Are you a former MCCDA bargaining unit member that successfully passed probation and worked for MCSO in the past 36 months? MCSO is currently accepting applications for the newly-created position of On-Call Corrections Deputy.

Examples of Duties:

  • Book, interview, classify and process adults in custody into jail; conduct searches of adults in custody; release from custody and return property.

  • Count, control and monitor adult in custody movement and activity in housing units, modules, cells and open dormitory settings; monitor suicidal adults in custody to determine if they require suicidal watch and provide counseling and coordination of medical services; conduct security and welfare checks and connect adults in custody with mental health services; search jail areas for contraband; secure and maintain evidence.

  • Escort adults in custody to areas and events within the institution, court appearances, personal interviews, medical care and other institutions; assemble and monitor adults in custody for transports to and from other counties, state facilities, extraditions and others; supervise and monitor meal times and recreational activities; supervise adult in custody work crews; prepare daily work release logs and investigate and report violations.

  • Control violent and/or mentally ill adults in custody; prepare daily count and adult in custody assignment sheets; document, record and write reports on adult in custody behavior and other applicable information.

  • Respond to backup calls for medical, adult in custody assaults and other emergency situations; testify in court related to crimes committed in custody.

  • Maintain security within the institution and oversee the health and safety of staff, adults in custody and the public; control access and maintain inventory of keys; operate control rooms and panels; monitor and access security doors, gates, cameras, alarms and video terminals; perform general facility maintenance.

  • Assist adults in custody with information regarding personal records, accounts, grievances, social visits and court proceedings; provide information and assistance regarding criminal cases to staff and the public; communicate and work with courts, records, medical staff, programs staff, other departments and agencies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • We will be creating a list to be used on an as-needed basis. Applicants are not scored or ranked in any way and have no guarantee or right to specific hours, posts, locations, etc.

  • To maintain part-time status with DPSST, each On-Call Corrections Deputy may be scheduled up to 20 hours per week or 80 hours per month, unless other arrangements are specifically approved. Under no circumstance will an On-Call Corrections Deputy be approved to work more than 80 hours a month for three consecutive months.

  • The pay rate will be determined by the number of completed years of corrections experience, up to the top step of the Corrections Deputy pay range, and will comply with Oregon's pay equity law.

TO QUALIFY:

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a former MCCDA bargaining unit member that had successfully passed probation and worked for MCSO in the past 36 months.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license by time of appointment.

  • Must pass all applicable assessments and evaluations - see Screening and Evaluation section below.

  • Must complete all required training and requirements specific to the position as set forth by DPSST and MCSO

  • A completed online Workday application with Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and responses to any and all questionnaires that are sent after submission of an online application.

  • All hire offers are contingent upon successful completion of the listed assessments which are determined by the length of time between the applicant's last date of employment with MCSO and date of conditional offer for On-Call position:

Employed with MCSO more than 6 Months ago but less than 1 year:

Employed with MCSO more than 1 year ago and up to 36 months ago:

  • Records Check

  • Psychological exam

The following elements of a candidate's background, if disclosed as the result of interview, investigation and/or self-disclosure, will automatically result in a termination of the selection process:

  • As an adult, being convicted of a felony crime.

  • Conviction of a Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) within the last five years, or two DUIIs within the last ten years.

  • Present inability to legally drive in the State of Oregon.

  • Dishonorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • Recent (within five (5) years of application) or ongoing affiliation with, and/or support of an organization or group, which advocates the violent overthrow of the United States Government.

  • As an adult, selling, producing or financing the production or sale of illegal controlled substances.

  • Discharge from another law enforcement or corrections agency for cause that would be basis for discharge from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

  • Evidence that the applicant has willfully provided false or misleading information during the application process, in the online application or Personal History Statement, or has attempted to gain unfair advantage during any phase of the testing or application process.

  • Inability to be certified by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.

  • Failure to meet minimum educational/training requirements.

The following factors, or any combination, may serve as a basis for a termination of the selection process:

  • Backgrounded by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office within the last year with a recommendation not to hire.

  • As an adult, confinement in a correctional institution resulting from convictions totaling more than six (6) months.

  • Unfavorable recommendations(s) on the part of references or past or present employers.
