(900 hour program, 30 hours/week, Monday-Friday, training September 2017, service in school October through June) Make a lasting impact in the life of a child! The Ohio Math Corps is aimed at improving math skills for students in grades K-5.
Ohio Math Corps members will provide one-on-one and small group support to students who are below proficient in math. Without this essential support students would otherwise not receive any extra support in a traditional classroom setting, and can potentially fall behind. A set of instructional strategies will be provided through training, and then members will be assigned to a school building where they will be able to work directly with children and apply those strategies, targeting specific math skills students are struggling with.
Members will help students build confidence in their skills which will allow them to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Members will monitor students' progress toward key benchmarks throughout the duration of the project.Members will receive a living allowance and upon completion of the program will receive an education award of $2907.50. Each AmeriCorps member is required to participate in professional development training throughout their service.
In addition, members must participate in National Days of Service by volunteering in the community. Members will not engage in Prohibited Activities, as described in the Terms and Conditions, and in the member Service Agreement.
