Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the EEOA, all states and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) must ensure that ELs can participate meaningfully and equally in educational programs and services
Position Summary and Responsibilities
Working from our office in Worthington or Mason, Ohio, or at your home, certified teachers will utilize the Pearson Online Classroom to support and motivate students in working through their curriculum, deliver synchronous instruction, provide intervention and enrichment, and use data to diagnose student learning needs.
The English Language Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
The EL Lead teacher will be responsible for coordinating EL screening.
Coordinate language testing, staying compliant with state timelines for tasks such as the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year meetings and documentation
Analyze data to determine the level of English proficiency for EL students
Assess the progress of ELs in acquiring the skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing in English
Provide extra support to ELs for continuous progress toward English language proficiency and continuous grade-level academic progress as measured by performance on state assessments
Work closely with other teachers and district professionals to ensure that the school's multilingual program is successful and operating in compliance with federal and state regulations
The EL Teacher Lead will utilize technology to deliver virtual instruction
The EL Teacher Lead will develop and accurately maintain EL students' Individual Learning Plans
The EL Teacher Lead will manage a homeroom of students
Keep student records and data up-to-date, including EL Data Views, State Testing Data Views, other DVs as needed, cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts
Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers regularly to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, discuss assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments, and coach special projects;
Become proficient with supplemental programs to support English Learners in the virtual setting, including interpreting data within the programs;
Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and parents)
Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program and that parents have a central point of contact
Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals
Assess the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Administer and analyze standardized testing data and adjust instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize the probability of student success
Build effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and availability to students and parents
Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others
Represent a commitment to equitable practice in all areas within the job description; this includes the use of evidence to make decisions, holding high expectations for all students, and committing to providing individualized support to all students to meet those expectations
Develop a general knowledge of the entire program's K-12 curriculum and a very detailed understanding of the courses
Work collaboratively with other staff within a professional learning community to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among staff;
Collaborate within the school's professional learning community to continuously monitor student data to make strong instructional decisions that have a direct impact on student learning;
