What we are looking for:

As the Office Specialist, you will assist visitors and employees of the North Cascade District (NCD), Department of Forestry, by providing service, explaining and applying rules, policies, procedures, and programs. Some duties include:

  • Aid the public and users by issuing permits under defined criteria.

  • Dispatch wildland firefighting resources during fire season.

  • Operate the Unit's smoke management program.

  • Assist the Fire Protection program to meet administrative goals.

  • Provide support to all programs that the NCD administers.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents

OR

An associate degree in any field

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note: Driver's License Check

  • This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver's license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience providing the public and staff (over the telephone, at the counter and through written correspondence) with explanation of services, rules, policies, procedures, and programs

  • Ability to provide information and assistance to landowners and customers concerning burn permits, fire danger levels, regulated use requirements and fire situations, including maintaining and updating fire information phone message line.

  • Ability to coordinate, order, and maintain inventory of office supplies necessary to perform daily business within the Molalla Unit.

  • Ability to operate electronic office equipment, computer programs (such as spreadsheets, database, and word processing), multi-line phone system, copiers, 2-way radio, calculators, postage meter, and fax machine.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
