Under direct supervision, in a training capacity, these positions learn to perform specialized work for one of the functional areas within the Office of Technology. The work will require learning to research, analyze, interpret and apply established methods and procedures. These positions develop knowledge and skills in implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting various information and communications technology (ICT) systems and services offered by the Office of Technology, as well as the associated network infrastructure, components, equipment, devices, applications, hardware, software, security, and solution development. Perform related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

These positions are distinguished by having no latitude for independent action and predominant duties are characterized by on-the-job training and routine assignments that are reviewed regularly.

  • Learn to document service calls and work in the service desk ticketing system.

  • Learn to provide on-site and/or remote technical support to users of ICT equipment, systems and security.

  • Learn to troubleshoot and maintain connectivity between multiple locations of a wide area network; ensure connectivity for all network users.

  • Learn to assist in processing network account forms; review submitted user account requests, modifications and deletions for accuracy and perform requested actions.

  • Learn to maintain the agency ICT equipment inventory database; assign inventory tags to all equipment, enter pertinent information for equipment into the inventory database, update the database when equipment is moved, reassigned, and/or sent to surplus.

  • Learn to assist in the installation, configuration and security of new equipment, software, and systems.

  • Learn standard programming tasks, maintaining product documentation, and updating data processing manuals.

  • Learn to collect, structure, and analyze data to create usable information.

  • Attend both formal and informal training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computers and peripheral devices.

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and related terminology.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of information and communications technology (ICT).

  • Knowledge of basic network cabling conventions.

  • Ability to think logically, analyze and troubleshoot problems.

  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

  • Ability to research and comprehend technical manuals.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Training: Associate degree from an accredited college or university with nine (9) semester hours of computer science/Information technology.

OR

Substitution: High school diploma or the equivalent AND completion of a certificate in an IT (Information Technology) related field.

OR

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in information, telecommunication, or wireless technology, and/or information related fields.
