TRP051, Transportation Specialist 2 (PG: J)

Working Title "Research Specialist"

Salary $43,500.00

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, administers research studies conducted for the Department by consultants, ensuring the completion of study objectives in accordance with contract specifications. Develops and performs research studies concerning transportation systems and presents the results of these studies for Department evaluation and application. Provides engineering and technical support, including complex data analysis and interpretation, to other Department units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND Six months of related experience

OR Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience

OR One year of experience required at the lower level Transportation Specialist 1 (TRP050) or position equivalent.

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a basic knowledge of research techniques

  • Possession of a basic knowledge of conducting technical studies

  • Ability to read and evaluate technical reports and journals; write investigative reports, research projects and state-of-art reports; and develop equations (i.e., regression)

  • Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience expressing ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information

  • Possess the ability to identify and analyze problems; gather, interpret, and evaluate information to determine its accuracy and relevance; and reason and make sound, well-informed decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution

  • Ability to prepare and administer a budget for in-house projects, and evaluate consultant's budget and expenditures

  • Ability to use statistical software and evaluate existing and/or to be developed technologies for applications for departmental needs

  • Possesses good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated experience organizing work, setting priorities, and determining objectives and strategies to achieve them; monitoring and evaluating progress against goals

  • Able to prioritize assigned tasks to achieve desired goals

  • Accurately sees detail in numbers

  • Committed to providing quality customer service

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience and/or formal schooling in the following areas: computer/word processing, technical writing, document editing, oral communications and statistical analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to apply solutions to make organizational improvements

  • Demonstrated experience developing queries and/or reports for large databases

  • Demonstrated project management experience

In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee's favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.

The Asphalt Paving Machine Operator's primary function is to operate the asphalt paving machine to achieve overall ride quality and appearance. The operator must perform daily maintenance checks and report any mechanical or safety issues to a supervisor. In addition, the operator may be required to perform minor repairs to the equipment and is expected to assist in the general operation of each job site. The position consists of but is not limited to the following duties: * Installing/removing auto paving electronic; * Adding/removing screed extensions; * Cleaning excess asphalt off of paver; * Set up and maintenance of erosion control; * Loading and unloading of materials; * Checking and maintaining grade stakes; * Set up and maintenance of all traffic control aids; * Operating rollers, power broom, tamps, and skid steer loaders, and any other equipment employee is able to operate; * Driving pick-ups, flatbed, water trucks, and sand trucks; * Maintenance of all equipment and tools. The above listed duties require periods of standing, walking, stooping and bending. Employee must be able to climb equipment's ladder to reach the operators seat.
