Working Title "Research Specialist"
JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, administers research studies conducted for the Department by consultants, ensuring the completion of study objectives in accordance with contract specifications. Develops and performs research studies concerning transportation systems and presents the results of these studies for Department evaluation and application. Provides engineering and technical support, including complex data analysis and interpretation, to other Department units.
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND Six months of related experience
OR Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience
OR One year of experience required at the lower level Transportation Specialist 1 (TRP050) or position equivalent.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a basic knowledge of research techniques
Possession of a basic knowledge of conducting technical studies
Ability to read and evaluate technical reports and journals; write investigative reports, research projects and state-of-art reports; and develop equations (i.e., regression)
Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience expressing ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information
Possess the ability to identify and analyze problems; gather, interpret, and evaluate information to determine its accuracy and relevance; and reason and make sound, well-informed decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution
Ability to prepare and administer a budget for in-house projects, and evaluate consultant's budget and expenditures
Ability to use statistical software and evaluate existing and/or to be developed technologies for applications for departmental needs
Possesses good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Detail-oriented with demonstrated experience organizing work, setting priorities, and determining objectives and strategies to achieve them; monitoring and evaluating progress against goals
Able to prioritize assigned tasks to achieve desired goals
Accurately sees detail in numbers
Committed to providing quality customer service
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and/or formal schooling in the following areas: computer/word processing, technical writing, document editing, oral communications and statistical analysis
Demonstrated ability to apply solutions to make organizational improvements
Demonstrated experience developing queries and/or reports for large databases
Demonstrated project management experience
