Office Of Local Health Director

Overview

The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is seeking candidates for the Director of the Division of Local Health, which is the "boots on the ground" of the Department. The Division is comprised of twelve district offices around the state that execute a wide range of initiatives that reflect the work of the Department as a whole as well as a central administrative team.

The Director must be able to manage the complexity of a large division that balances the unique needs of communities with the programmatic goals of the Department. The Director needs to effectively represent Local Health with the Department's Central Office, which may require careful negotiation, advocacy, and challenging communications to and from the district offices.

The ideal candidate is a strong manager, team leader, and able to communicate vision and direction to staff. They will also have an extensive background managing internal and external partnerships with diverse groups of stakeholders, along with programmatic experience in public health.

Experience leading large groups and the ability to rapidly identify problems and recommend solutions are also critical to this role. This person will lead the day-to-day work of the Division including oversight of budget, strategic plan development and execution, personnel management, and divisional culture. Skill in organizational change management is important in this role. We seek a candidate with strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills, good verbal and written communication, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead a team to accomplish desired objectives.

The Director will be a part of the leadership team at VDH and will work with leaders throughout the state of Vermont. The position is located at our Central Office in Waterbury, Vermont but will require travel throughout the state to remain connected to the district offices and their unique perspectives.
