The opportunity

H&R Block, the world's leader in tax preparation services,1 is looking for driven leaders to manage our retail offices, and the fabulous teams of people that work within them, to accelerate our seasonal tax business. Our positions will be filled as an Office Manager I, II, or III, depending upon experience, and we also offer career progression to multi-unit office management positions and year-round roles to those with an interest and drive to grow!

Leverage your leadership skills to:

  • Coach and lead the team to deliver outstanding client service and exceed targeted goals

  • Manage office staffing, operations, and logistics for a large tax office

  • Grow the business through developing local partnerships, managing office community involvement, and modeling and coaching sales and new client growth tactics

  • Assist in the development and execution of office-level growth plans

  • Assist in recruiting and interviewing tax office associates

Minimum Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 2 years of prior related retail supervisor experience, or equivalent

  • 2-3 years in an Office Manager or Tax Professional position preferred

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated aptitude for growth plan execution and desire to grow the business

  • Leadership and supervisory skills to guide and develop associates

  • Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment or Income Tax Course

  • Must complete 18-hour continuing education requirement and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements

General Responsibilities: The Branch Manager is responsible for managing the Branch Office in order to meet the financial services needs of customers in the assigned community market area. This includes implementing strategies to achieve goals developed for the office as part of the Retail Banking Division's annual operating plan and ensuring the office's compliance with operating policies and procedures and outside regulatory requirements. The Branch Manager directly supervises assigned personnel, communicating with appropriate management and staff personnel and providing periodic reports. The person in this role will actively seek and engage in learning and development opportunities to ensure peak performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Responsible for building and maintaining a sales and service culture in the branch and demonstrating sales leadership in all sales activities in the branch. * Sets goals, creates sales plans, and manages the sales process for assigned branch by providing employees with coaching and feedback, encouraging and reinforcing all sales behaviors, and monitoring results. * Directly responsible for contributing to achieving sales goals through loan and deposit growth, generation of fee income, and delivering service to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships. * Makes customer service calls on present customers within the assigned market area to identify additional financial needs and ensure retention of the customer relationship. * Maintains an awareness of new business opportunities with customers and actively refers and assists customers with obtaining specialized services from other bank departments. * Serves as a member of the Bank's sales team; makes group sales calls where these types of calls will improve the opportunity for new business development. * Implements strategies to achieve goals assigned to the office as established in the Retail Banking Division's Business plan; assists in the development of the annual budget for the office and adheres to budget parameters. * Effectively utilizes the bank's Customer Relationship Management program to track customer sales and service activities as well as cultivate prospective opportunities within the office's market area. * Develops and maintains positive customer relationships through courteous and prompt response to customer questions, problems, and concerns. * Takes ownership of internal and external customer problems and/or requests, proactively seeks answers and/or provides solutions and follows up to ensure customer needs have been met. * Actively participates in the community in a manner that reflects favorably on the Bank. * Observes, coaches, and provides feedback to branch team to ensure excellent customer service. * Provides guidance and support to branch team in resolving customer questions, problems, and concerns. * Assists new and existing customers with various banking needs including, but not limited to: opening and servicing deposit accounts; originating consumer loans and conducting loan closings; providing appropriate banking and account disclosures. * Develops an expanded knowledge of all areas of the bank, including a thorough knowledge of bank products and services to ensure ability to coach branch employees and make qualified referrals to all business partners. * Ensures that the branch office is properly staffed and that the staff is trained to meet customer service needs as well as sales objectives. * Demonstrates willingness to take initiative and adapt within the role to meet the diverse needs of customers and staff. * Appropriately coaches and develops staff to meet branch goals. * Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors consistent with organizational values and expectations. * Partners with HR to recruit, interview, and select employees that have the best potential to meet the requirements of the job. * Communicates performance expectations and provides coaching so employees know how to successfully complete work assignments. * Plans, assigns, and directs work; regularly meets with employee to provide feedback on performance. * Provides documented feedback on employee performance throughout the probationary period and at least on an annual basis thereafter. * Identifies and addresses employee performance and/or behavior situations that require modification; provides and documents appropriate intervention. * Motivates team members by using appropriate methods of reward and recognition. * Openly communicates with team regarding pertinent policies and procedures affecting the department and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged. * Maintains security controls to protect the facility against criminal and fraudulent operations and unnecessary risk or exposure. * Authorizes payment of checks above Teller Limit. * Have a working knowledge of all essential duties assigned to the Assistant Branch Manager. * Communicates with Retail Management, other supervisors, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate activities. * Provides periodic reports to Retail Management and other groups as required throughout the Bank by the expected deadline. * Conducts regularly scheduled sales and customer service meetings. Education & Qualifications * A minimum of two (2) years' related work experience or specialized retail banking education and training normally required. * An Associate degree in related field preferred. * Notary experience preferred or ability to obtain notary as needed. * Ability to obtain and properly maintain a National Mortgage Licensing Registration (NMLS #) in order to take applications for loans that are secured by residential real estate is a requirement of this position. * Ability to work a flexible schedule as required to meet operating needs. Skill(s): Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient PC skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of branch policies and procedures; supervisory skills sufficient to manage employees; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 50 lbs. or less; visual , auditory and speaking skills; valid driver's license is required.
